WBA at it again

A lot of these extra divisions need to go especially the lower weights. Too easy for boxers to make a career without fighting the toughest guys. In fact its down right bad business sense to take a challenge. Look at Arum trying stop Hasegawa/Montiel. He's allready scuppered Gamboa/Lopez.

There are some decent divisions not of the original eight however. Should super middle be done away with?
I think a much bigger problem are the alphabet boys who pretend they're boxing administrators when infact they're nothing more than parasites.

Edit: Also 24 hours weigh are an important factor nowadays. Can you imagine aguy who is only just too big for lightweight haveing to jump up all the way to welter and take on the bloody huge Clotey?

 

agree, 24 hour weigh ins do more damage than same day IMO

 

Bernard Dunne's win over Cordoba meant more than Khan's win over Kotelnik and many other "world title" winners of late.Fighters make belts,belts don't make fighters.

 

Actually poorly paid chinese children in sweat shops make belts.

That's why they've become more easily available and less valuable.

only two sanctioning bodies per division wth one belt with each

scrap some of the wights and reajust the weight limits in some of the divisions

 

the sanction bodies are a useful evil.Johnson wouldn't have got a shot against rjj if it was for his belt and the allow fighters without the right connections like cab to make a living.It would be far easier for casuals if there were 4 titlists and 1 champ.I use to think the ring belt was the way to go but i now think its approach is to half arsed.Does anyone know why the japs only have two sanctioning bodies

Yeah, the way things are theres no other option these days.

 

I've got to the stage where I hope the sanctioning bodies go even further and **** things up more. As things stand nothing will be done about the ridiculous number of belts etc. but if they keep going and make it even worse there will be a time when people will have enough and the sanctioning bodies (or at least some of them) will be tossed aside as worthless and some clarity will be restored to the sport.

Can't see anyway it gets better without getting worse first.

The only reason he cares now is cause he doesn't have the belt. He's made a massive issue out of beating Baldomir for the 'linear' belts rather than fighting the best at the weight at the time.

He can't have it both ways.

 

I remember reading that back in the 70s or 80s The Ring magazine got caught accepting bribes from a promoter to fiddle their rankings, may have been Don King and as a result their credibility was shot. As a result, the TV companies had to start giving credence to the alphabet bodies as up till then they didn't really carry any weight. But of course then the alphabet bodies were as susceptible to promoter influence as well.
I think John McCain had an interest in claening up boxing. There was an idea mooted that all alphabet bodies would be barred from the US. Without the TV revenue, no decent fighters would be willing to use them and they would eventually die an natural death. I think the US government didn't want a federal administration of boxing tho.

 

Yeah, Floyd gloated about his numerous WBC belts, which actually led him to inferior opposition other than more dangerous belt holders.

Floyd is a perfect example of numerous weights/belts making someone look better than they are, allowing someone to achieve with an unimpressive resume.

 

It's disgusting, it really is. There should be 1 champ. Interim champs should be in VERY rare cases.
