The WBA has decided per "new order" that "Canelo" Alvarez will both be WBA champion at 160 and 168, letting him keep the 168 one too.

This after him just vacating the 168 belt, but being the cash cow he is, the WBA quickly bend the rules in his favor. Comparable as they did with Floyd in the past, who didn't defend his 154 belt for 2 years, holding up the division as a whole.
But this isn't much of a problem, as Alvarez only holds the paper "Regular" belt, that he won from Fielding, and not the actual championship (WBA "Super") that's held by Callum Smith. Smith had previously blasted out the same Fielding in a single round, and is the actual GBP/Ring beltholder as well.

It's all about the possible earnings it seems.

One rule for Canelo, another rule for everyone else. Another example of Canelo getting preferential treatment from the sanctioning bodies. This never looks good and is damaging to his image among fans. If he's smart he tells WBA to bugger off and dumps the WBA regular belt. He's bigger than any belt anyway.

No surprise, the WBA are ridiculously corrupt.

The belt has about as much credibility as the body that issued it.

Not really a new surprising thing here. WBA has done it few times in the past. Mayweather once held title as (super) champions in both welterweight and superwelterweight division in this organization. And not even once having a mandatory fight. And guess what, there are 'regular' champions in each divisions.

Even the guys at boxing scene just called out the WBA and it's BS.
People are finally getting fed up with this ****.

I love how the BBBofC is "all about the fighters" yet let the ABC´s run rampant with their title scams.

WBA is running a sanctioning scam so they can collect as many fees as possible. See BS for the article.

Canelo could retire and still keep his belts.

Lol they are all completely unscrupulous, all of them. They are just chasing money and when their own rules get in their way they just break them. Who is going to stop them doing it? Who is above them? Im a well known Canelo hater (dirty cheat bla bla) but that aside how can they force him to defend their belt if he doesnt want to? They can ignore it for now but at some point they will expect him to fight. I dont want to see another Canelo weight as he tries to balance between fighting at the 2 different weights. I hate catchweights in title fights. To be fair i can understand why anybody would want Canelo holding one of their belts but you cant force them to keep it if they dont want to have it.
