Apparently the wba have confirmed there doing a tournament to determine who holds the wba belt.basically fury has to beat klit, then the winner of Luis Ortiz v ustinov to get in the final,ch2agev is facing Browne and the winner will face oquendo who has a bye.
Don't know how true this is,was shared on one the Facebook boxing pages.

If true then basically fury fought for and won the 3 belts but because of boxing politics he now only officially holds the wbo belt.

Seems pretty legit. Really don't think this would have happened if Fury had lost to Klitschko in the first fight (wouldn't have been stripped by the ibf either)

If Fury and Ustinov win I can see the purse bids situation getting very interesting.

Decent idea as the participants are largely world level/fringe contenders.

Is this really happening? That's even worse as I imagined would happen to the division when the Klit era ended.
We already got a WBC holder that does everything in his power to avoid his mando. Then we got 2 underserving guys fighting for the IBF belt and ending on a freak injury, and now we have the WBA who scales up his mockery kiddy beltholders to determine the "real" champion... what a farce.

    Looks like it is.

It isn't such a bad idea, which the thought to make just one champ. But surely the tournament should end AT Fury, not with him having to fight Klit?

Yeah surely if it's to determine who is the wba heavyweight champ then because Tyson has just won that belt from klit then the tournament should be to see who faces Tyson in the final.Although there could be some complications if Tyson took a couple of fights (wilder etc) while waiting to determine who makes the final, and he ends up losing a fight

Whilst 100% WBA need to sort out this 2/3/4 titles in each weight class- this is the worst thing I've seen since the IBF stripping Fury.

I mean firstly why have the only ordered this for the heavyweights- i'd bet anything more popular champs such as GGG will not be ordered to face Jacobs or Eubank or whoever has the Interim belt. They also NEVER would have ordered this for Wlad.

Then if you take that away and assume they will do the same for every division. HOW can you put the Super Champion vs the previous Super Champion in what appears to be a semi final.

Surely you consolidate the belts from the bottom upwards- ie winner of Chag v Browne (reg) vs Ortiz (interim- not even sure why there is an interim as no one is injured) and then the winner of that fight be #1 to fight Fury early 2017.

That gives Fury/Wlad winner the opportunity to unify or have voluntaries and make some money.

I just think it is one of the most disrespectful treatments of a ACTUAL World Champion...but what can you expect from the WBA

Wait there? So they're saying Tyson Fury isn't the WBA champion? Is this a joke?

Why does Fres Oquendo always hold such a high ranking with the WBA as well?

Think the OP has that part wrong- per my understanding he is still Champ they are just cutting out the inteirm/reg belt with a tournament

    WBA are a joke

another way of looking at it; winner of Ortiz and Ustinov is the mandatory. Next mandatory is Chagaev/Browne/Oquendo

Looks worse than it is because of Fury v Klit but he has a rematch clause anyway so that fight would happen regardles of the so called tournament

It would have more credibility if they agree to retire the interim and regular belts after the tournament has finished

    I can't understand this at all, the worst fighter in Oquendo is the only fighter who has a pass from the first round of this? Why him, surely the champion should gain any advantages that there are. From looking at their rankings it should be;
    Fury vs Klitschko
    Chagaev vs Ortiz
The two winners fight each other to get one WBA champion and then from there have a tournament to determine who should challenge fro the belt between the next 8 highest ranked guys.
    Which would be;
    Browne
    Briggs
    Ustonov
    Oquendo
    Fedosov
    Tarver
    Haye
Parker, I include him as I assume Teper will be removed from the rankings?
That to me is the fairest way of doing things, champion gets an advantage of only 2 fights before fighting the challenger who has to win 3, creates one champion at the weight also and really decides who is the best at the weight. Either way I believe it is a much better way than that bag of **** that the WBA have come up with.

.....WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza explained. "“Ruslan Chagaev will face Lucas Browne on March the 5th in Germany. The winner must face Fres Oquendo, who by U.S. court order earned his right to this fight." (www.wbanews.com)

Looks like he sued WBA - anyone know anymore?

Article was all about Haye and the dissapointment they agreed the tournament before his fight. Can't believe they will miss out on the cash cow that is Haye - maybe he will storm the party and fight Oquendo

Make it up as they go along
