1. Holyfield vs. Beast 2. Beast vs. El Chicken 3. Rahman vs. Mormeck in elimination to title shot. No wonder that K2 does not feel the hunger for that strap.
Noone can deny that the WBA have become a farce. Noone can deny that they are by far the worst out of the 3 traditional 'big' sanctioning bodies. Noone can deny that they are corrupt. Noone can deny that they make up rules randomly to suit whatever will fill their pockets the most. Noone can deny that the WBA belt, particularly the heavyweight belt, has zero credibility. It is a shame, that the long history of the WBA, and the blood and sweat of boxers for so many years that lent it credibility, has been shat on continuously for a decade. The WBA don't even try to hide how awful they are. So long as it suits at least a small, insane demographic to recognise the title, they will keep doing what they are doing. For the rest of us? The WBA is dead.
Indeed, I've put up 2 polls about it the last 6 months. In both the WBA came out shamefully bad, and rightly so. I even remember the only vote in favour of the WBA on the last one came from a guy with 2 WBA beltholders in his av! The WBA is done for.
And when they actually had a worthy title fight (Wlad-Chagaev) they refused to put up their belt, being paid off by Don King to keep it away from the Klits. They're a joke, I don't consider the WBA a legitimate title anymore. The WBC is quickly following in becoming as much of a joke.
If I were Cotto i would give that belt away and tell the world that I don't want to be the champion of WBA because ,,I deserve much more credible belt"
Not only that... but they also just decided willy nilly to give Chagaev's WBA title that he beat Valuev for... back to Valuev as Wladimir Klitschko knocked out the true Champ, Chagaev. Valuev is Champ Chagaev beats Valuev and Chagaev becomes Champ Klitschko knocks out Chagaev and Valuev becomes Champ atsch
I wouldnt throw the belt away but id be holding it under the complete knowledge that it doesnt quite mean what it should and would be going hell for leather to win the other ones.
It was even more convoluted due to the fact Chagaev's medical issues were known about before the fight in Finland, Valuev refused to fight a different opponent on the supposed card and Valuev hadn't fought in almost a year by the time he lost the title, whilst Chagaev had defended the title 3 or 4 months previous to the Finland date...
