    Ashie Kotey Tours Australia

    - Daily Guide On-Line - Oct 18th 2010

Universal Boxing Council (UBC) World Champion Ashie Kotey will embark on a tour of Australia in a bid to prepare adequately for his unification bout with World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Champion Miguel Acosta.

The unification bout with the Venezuelan will be staged in Mexico on December 26, 2010.

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), under the leadership of Samir Captan, therefore arranged the tour in collaboration with the Universal Boxing Club of the University of Wollongong, Australia, in order to give the Ghanaian pugilist some exposure ahead of the make-or-break fight.

A training camp will be set up for Kotey in Wollongong in South West Australia.

The tour, which takes place between November 15 and 30, 2010, is part of an ongoing relationship between the University of Wollongong and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

The relationship will not be limited to training camps, as Ghanaian boxing coaches will be sponsored to take part in training and skill-sharing programmes in the south western city of Australia.

In an interview with DAILY GUIDE SPORTS, a boxing promoter and manager with Classic Vision Sports Management in Accra, Dauda Fusseini lauded the Chairman of the GBA, Samir Captan, for ‘taking such huge steps to move Ghana boxing forward’.

According to him, the initiative was one of the best he had seen in the history of boxing in Ghana and ‘we are thankful to Samir Captan’.

“I want to assure Mr Captan that once he has demonstrated the commitment to make professional boxing more attractive, we would all put our shoulders to the wheel to make sure that it comes to fruition,” Dauda added.
