http://www.fightnews.com/fightnews_2/headlines//EEAkEppVVATgmskUiJ.html Check it. WBA is OKing 9 and 11 rounders. What's your thoughts? I think it's pretty good to have odd numbers of rounds again.
They are such ****ing morons. It doesn't help draws. If judges are properly scoring even rounds then one even round and the rest split makes a draw. These ABCs have one goal - kill boxing. I think Dana White owns them now or some ****. This is madness.
I'd like to hear his logic for saying that this will help prevent controversial decisions. What difference does number of rounds make if the scores are wrong? And are draws a serious problem in the sport? How many major fights end up in draws? It happens from time to time, and in a good fight it sets up a juicy rematch. The worst part of this is it will give Heavyweights even more incentive not to train. Those guys would love to have 8 round fights.
I remember the NABF trying an extra 13th round in the 80s, if a fight was scored a draw. It did not last long, as it was quite simply stupid and dangerous to expect two fighters to have another round at least five minutes (nearer 15 me thinks) after the last action. (Ron Essett WS13 Sanderline Williams is no misprint!) I know what the WBA purposes is slightly different, but still rather silly IMO.
It's stupid. I read it this morning and I can't see any way this makes since even for those made-up titles...
