As much as I like watching GGG fight, I honestly hope that if Team GGG decides to hang onto belt and feels compelled to cave, that HBO does not buy the fight. GGG-Fletcher is not a HBO WCB caliber fight. Fletcher is an ESPN3/NBCSN undercard type of guy. He should be getting KO1'ed by Johnson or Stevens on a NBC Sports Network undercard not headlining on HBO WCB.

Apparently this guy wont step aside either:

    https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/23508550/fletcher-set-for-dream-shot-at-golovkin/

Make no mistake, this guy is a huge step down even from Adama. Adama, for all he was not known very well was at least a guy who had not been stopped and had performed in a title fight without embarrassing himself.

Fletcher was KO-2'ed by a British prospect with a 50-odd% KO ratio at the regional/development level just a year or so ago. In other words Fletcher has no chin, none. He is a complete can who should not even be fighting on GGG's undercard, or at least the televised portion.

Given this huge clusterfizzuck by the WBA , how should Team GGG respond?

I'd rather see him fight his mandatory and keep the belt. Keeping the belt will make a fight with Martinez-Cotto winner bigger in my opinion.

And once again, sanctioning bodies show what utter jokes they've become.

It's hilarious how difficult it is to follow his dream for a boxer who thinks straight and have one purpose - to fight the best in his weight.

It's embarassing to witness how various stakeholders make it difficult for fans to love boxing when they pursue their own objectives. Clearly WBA wants to capture this July date, otherwise it's just incomprehensible why they give 30 days to decide and leave no choice for GGG to put aside Geale fight...

I can imagine how GGG is frustrated.

Problem is the other champs dont want to fight him in a unification so if he drops the belt what chance does he have of getting a fight with them in future? Can already hear the likes of Quillin saying 'why should I fight him hes got no belt.'

GGG should fight Fletcher and treat it as a sparring match for Geale, it doesnt have to be on HBO but get the KO and fight Geale a month-six weeks later.

Is GGG vs Fletcher undercard and GGG vs Geale main event PPV worthwhile? :)

It's so typical for alphabet orgs to screw things up for the willing fighters and fans once again. And the WBA shows once again they're the worst of the bunch.

I can already predict the Golovkin haters response to this, whatever solution GGG comes up with. If he drops the belt then the haters will ridicule him for 'ducking' a can like Fletcher. And if he defends it he's ducking Geale to fight yet another can and has no real intention to fight the best at the weight at all.
A clear lose/lose situation in wich Golovkin either loses the belt and his negotiation position or loses another relatively big fight.

    FVCK YOU WBA!

Agree with this. Other fighters are already finding enough reasons not to fight Golovkin without adding "he doesn't have a belt" to their list.

Drop the belt and move up to 168.

He doesn't look healthy making 160 anymore.

They probably owe him or his promoter a favor for whatever reason.
Comparable to how Ruiz became WBA mandatory after not having a single significant win in 6 years time.
