Juergen Braehmer is the next mandatory opponent of Kovalev according to WBA. I guess the german wants either free money or a free belt. He sit on the fake belt for so long and now that Kova has a fight with Ward coming up, he finally found his nutsack ?!?
For all their splintered title nonsense, the WBA is pushing for some great fights this year. (Ioka vs. Estrada unification, this, Rigondeaux vs. Flores, and Corrales vs. Sosa)
Kovalev if he wants to can - and probably will - request special permission from the WBA (and pay Brähmer step-aside money) to postpone this mandatory defense until after facing Ward in November, even though he is technically past due for his 18-month window to face a mandatory. :good
**** that belt then. Belts are basically meaningless these days anyway. If he drops it to fight Ward and loses to Ward, he can just fight someone else with a belt right after that and win one back
Imagine how much of a legend kovalev could become at lhw if he beats ward in America then heads to Germany and woops Braehmer. I have my doubts on kovalev beating ward I hope he can though.
Such timing makes you wonder if the alphabet title organizations are out to screw their fighters as much as possible. Are they not getting enough money from their 5 titles per division? Super, unified, interim, in reces, regular, who can even keep track! Krusher should just toss that worthless belt in the garbage and save himself the fees.
You do realize that that is the entire reason this is happening? The WBA is starting to force their regular champs to fight the super champ to lessen the amount of champions the sanctioning body has.
Yeah, it took long enough, but they're finally caving to all the public outcry about the preponderance of fractured titles. With time perhaps they can even regain their status as the most respected org, since the rest all have issues of their own.
