How does this work? I know Froch and Quigg are regular champs but how does this process work? I was just looking to see if Thurman was the WW regular champion.
No Thurman is the interim champ. The WBA is a complete joke but this is how it works I think: Super Champ (real champ, bs excuse to give the belt to another person) Regular Champ (basically champion #2) Interim Champ (#1 contender)
you become the super champion when your the regular champion and you then unify however froch has unified and is not the super champion, as ward was already the regualar champion and unifed so the super champion spot was already taken, kind of ******ed but i was still expect them to elevate ward to super di duper champion and froch to super champion and let someone else fight for the regualr belt
The rules vary, but generally the 'super' champ has got a significant number of title defenses (the number varies - presumably depending on cashflow or estimated future income), generally somewhere between 6 and 10. It's all BS anyway but you'll find the 'Super-champ' status conferred only on guys who have loads of defenses... or have great earning potential, or just happen to be independently wealthy.* *DISCLAIMER - THE ABOVE COMMENT WAS IN NO MEANS INTENDED TO SUGGEST THAT ANYONE, IN PARTICULAR BEIBUT SHUMENOV OR FELIX STURM, HAVE, OR HAVE EVER HAD, ANY INFLUENCE OVER WBA RANKINGS SELECTION OR TITLE FIGHT ATTRIBUTION OR RESULTS
Froch isn't the regular champion, he is the "Unified champion". Small thing to note but if we're being technical... In theory the WBA "could" have Super, Unified, Regular, Interim and "in Recess"
froch is 'super' champion. after ward was stripped of his wbc title this meant he was no longer a wba 'super' belt holder....as froch had ibf title he was elevated from 'regular' to 'super' wba champ. http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?title=WBASUP&division=Super Middleweight&SUBMIT=Go
WBA are an embarrassment, the only champion is the Super Champion in my eyes. Regular and Intrem aren't champions.
