I do agree he has improved, but by how much? Soliman, Green and the Yellow taxi boxing club of Buenos Aires isnt a very good measuring stick, is it?

Mundine is by no means a class 168 pound fighter.

you could be right mate, sounds like you're judging him off the Siaca and Ottke fights from years ago when he was a young pup.

Have you seen a fight of his? I have seen a few of Butes and he def aint a notch above Mundine.

What does that say about the 160-168 divisions, which historically have been extremely strong. 10-15 years ago these two would have been top notch tune ups, not contenders.

Doesnt say much for Kessler then when a limited fighter like Mundine took 4 rds off him.

Thats the thing with measuring sticks, they open up a hell of alot of debate.

With my measuring stick of Kessler you could say he took an easy road to a fight with Joe. He beat Siaca, then beat Mundine who was beaten by Siaca, then Lucas who was bashed by Green then Beyer who was smashed by Green in their first encounter to be shamefully robbed.

Well it could say its an ordinary bunch and Joes is the "just barely" the best of it.

Haha no trace of venom there is there?

For either man to be considered the best at that weight is rather pathetic in light of the historical strength of that Division.

I could name 30 better fighters in the past 25 years without having to think?

Kessler is the only fighter at that weight who had the class in him to be a real contender, as shown by beating a top notch tuneup guy in Mundine.

:lol: "No trace of Venom there" I actually think Joe is a great fighter, but you made the division sound terrible and i worked a **** stirring comment around it.

Ok name your 30 fighters better than Joe and Kessler (or did you mean Mundine and Bute) should be interesting since you dont have to think about it.

The 168 division has historically been a stepping stone for other weight divisions. No great fighters opted to stay at that weight.
Now, theres many there, and it's one of the best divisions in boxing.

    I think you're on crack.

Firstly I meant Mundine and Bute, but here goes,

Collins, Eubank, Benn, Watson, Woodall, Hill, Jones, Barkley, Toney, Liles, Hearns, Beyer, Lucas, Brewer, McCallum, Rochgianni, McClelen, Johnson, Kessler, Reid, Calzaghe, Graham, Brewer

    At least 20 there?

Yes Pecks, I am on crack for thinking that the MW/SMW division has had some good fighters.

2 of those choices stuck out like sore thumbs. Beyer and Lucas both were bashed by Danny Green.

Still the list does prove a point, as I was just rattling around my head. Didnt Beyer beat Green?

The better draws on that list never stayed at 168 for too long. Calzaghe's the best guy on the list that stayed there, and he's still at 168 today.

As I said earlier, 168 has merely been a stepping point for people in the past. the Calzaghe/Kessler fight was the biggest fight in 168's history.

Yeah in the rematch, but there should never have been a need for a rematch as he was blasted out in the 1st fight then it was taken away from him.

No doubt there have been good fighters in the division as your list shows.

The difference is in attitude, ethics and character. Bute has the heart of a lion while Mundine's one of a weasel (no disrespect to Aussies). I don't know how Mundine still has fans after all his demential declarations. I really hope this fight takes place and Bute will take care of him with ease. Taller, smarter stronger...what Mundine can do?...AVOID HIM...
