Pacquiao's technically the champion in recess. What does that mean, exactly?

When he returns he will immediately have the right to challenge for the belt.

I hate belts getting upgraded with no fight, but if it had to happen I'm glad Ugas is the beneficiary. He's been the Rodney Dangerfield welterweight for a while.

This why Ugas took the Ramos fight for the regular WBA instead of accepting Bud’s offer for the WBO title. Everyone was confused by his decision but this was the plan all along in order to have a 3 belt unification within the PBC. Al ain’t having his fighter fight for interim and regular WBAs just for kicks. He’s starting a long term relationship that will gain him favorable rankings for his fighters.

Of course Spence will take this fight (thus becoming WBA/WBC/IBF champion, unifying all three major belts) while Crawford will continue sitting away like a coward.

I've been calling for this since last summer. Pac is at the point he can fight who he want too. He just can't be holding that WBA hostage while doing so. Ugas is now the WBA champ and he will be fighting Spence next. Another good fight Spence will be in while Crawford continue to waste prime fighting lower level competition smh. Crawford will have no choice but to accept a 60/40 deal versus Spence once he get that 3rd belt. Spence playing chess while Crawford playing checkers.

Spence might as well play Chess or Checks because he sure as hell does not want to fight Crawford. If you believe the only thing holding back a Crawford vs Spence fight is the purse split I have land in Florida you can buy. First it was "let the fight marinate". Then it was "He is on the wrong side of the street." And now it is Spence saying the split should at least be 70/30. If Spence thought he could beat Crawford he would have gone after his belt 2 years ago. When Spence gets boxed in by everyone but the Spenceaholics he will "no longer be able to get down to 147" and be moving up to 154. And the Spenceaholics will be find another excuse or two

I've been asking about this weird process that occurred for a while. Jamal James beat Ramos and then Ramos got the chance to fight for a better version of the WBA belt.

Granted James has already lost to Ugas, but that was before a solid streak of wins. Then when Ramos fought Ugas I thought the cards were a little generous in Ramos' direction.

I know even at the high level their decisions make no sense, but it's pretty weird for the loser of a fight to go directly to a better outcome and seem to have the judges on his side.
