Joshua is obviously the more meaningful fight, anybody saying different is just lying to themselves.

A vacant paper title vs a doorman doesn't mean anything for guy who's ruled the roost as long as Wlad did. Getting the chance to beat an undefeated heir apparent does have significance.

Joshua has a lot of hype right now, so I'd say adding him to your resume holds more weight than winning the vacant WBA title.:deal:

Yep, I'm not getting any of the hate towards Wlad. I think it's more out of desperation for people to see Joshua in a real fight.

If Wlad never boxed I can only imagine some of the 'world' champions we would have been subjected to over the last 10 years. Charles Martin's run would have been considered a golden era :D

After so long keeping the division somewhat honest, he should be able to plot his own route back to the top. What he's doing isn't even unreasonable.

It isn't the smart choice to pick one over the other when one brings in a huge amount of money, interest and prestige whilst the other sees you fight arguably a man who'll prob be the worst opponent on your CV since becoming a titilst for a fraction of the cash and kudos.

There's a lot of truth in this although the standard of contender did allow the one above average champ to attain a mythical status with some due to his ability to dismiss these substandard pretenders.

There was one other top drawer fighter in his era and he didn't fight him, that's a fact.

    Good point!

WBA should look at what is best for boxing though... maybe they feel Manchester Arena is slightly underselling this fight (no offence)

But I personally feel a unification show down between the best HW for the last 10 years vs the up and coming "body builder" prodigy would be a great spectacle for HW boxing and bring entertainment and interest back to the division which we were promised when TF won the belts

They could always make a WBA regular belt and super belt and interim belt. Give one to Browne, one to Wladimir and one to AJ. This way, everyone gets a belt and everyone is happy and they don't need to fight each other. Lol jk

Such a theory doesn't exist. Prestige comes from who you beat. Its just an excuse so Wlad can take the easy way out.

Its like saying beating paper champ Ricky Burns for the WBA is more prestigious than beating Terrence Crawford.

And Browne has always been one of the of non-contenders in the mix for the garbage bin regular title. He was due to box Oquendo , but mysteriously he's being bumped up for the full title.
Ask yourself how Oquendo -who is 10 years past his sell by date - is even a factor for the regular title.. Thats how low down the pecking order Browne is at.
Wlad should be ashamed for dragging up such a poor opponent to championship level.:shakehead:

    Exactly.
The high rating of Joshua is so far beyond anything he's actually achieved, it's ridiculous.
None of the fighters he has faced were genuine top 10 fighters, not even close.
He's never been 10 rounds. Dillian Whyte might be the best fighter he faced, and gave AJ a decent fight. Whyte's a British-title-level fighter.

And people seriously talk as if Joshua's "the man to beat" now in the division. At best, he's barely top 10. He's maybe slightly ahead of the likes of Hughie Fury and Lucas Browne in terms of actual achievement.

    You were correct.

People wil say "it was Wlad and his insistence on the WBA" that prevented the fight.
But I made a post a week or so ago saying "maybe Hearn knows something that will prevent this fight".
People tend to just eat up the story they are given.
But if you read between the lines, and scrutinize, there's no evidence that the fight was ever really on the cards in the mind of Eddie Hearn, just what he says.

I started to give Hearn the benefit of the doubt, I thought maybe they were willing to take a risk, and I still suspect Wlad DOES prefer the Browne fight too .... so Wlad's not blameless in this.
But when both sides are involved in something they never believed in, obviously it was just for publicity.

The proof of the pudding will be who Joshua fights instead.
If he fights someone genuinely risky, then maybe they were genuine about taking a risk with Wlad.
If he fights someone like David Price, then it was clearly all a farce.

AJ is the guy to beat because he looks 10 levels above everybody else in the division. Its as simple as that. You can clearly see the difference between him and the rest of the comp . You seem to have a stick up your ass when it comes to Joshua for some reason.

    No , thats ridiculous.
Does Golovkin choosing a welter weight mean he never wanted to fight Canelo?
AJ hasn't many options now after they were banking on the Klitschko fight.

Wlad has been a pro for like 20 years, champ for 10 years so if he still has nothing to bring to the table according to you then how pathetic is his career? LMAO
Truth is Wlad needs to fight AJ, not Lucas freakin' Brown.

Quite disappointed in Wlad if he doesn't face Joshua. Step up to the plate, Wlad. Knock him out and you'll silence every effer on here.

Joshua beat a guy for the IBF belt who 'won' it because the other guy blew out his knee without a punch even landing. At this point Joshua isn't even on the level of Sultan Ibragimov or Chagaev because they actually beat someone for their belts that earned it.

Joshua has shown absolutely nothing to this point that he is the heir apparent because his opposition has been so bad. Only delusional nutthuggers are trying to say Joshua is some great fighter. His resume says he is a coddled baby at this point.
