WBA probably felt bad for him as he got the position to fight for the title but he will never get the opportunity until Floyd retired. I don't mind it in this division as it kind of opens it up a bit as Floyd and Pac's titles will go to one person if the fight happens and that would have just left Brook but with Thurman too it gives others the opportunity as Floyd and Pac can chose who they want to fight instead of an obligation to fight certain people.

    :patsch

The titles are supposed to go to one person. You don't just make up others if a unification happens for the sake of it.

This sounds the same as Quiggs belt.

    Current WBA beltholders.

HW: Wlad "Super", Chagaev "Regular", Ortiz "interim" (soon to be stripped).
    CW: Lebedev "Regular", Kalenga "interim".
    LHW: Kovalev "Super", Brähmer "Regular".
SMW: Ward "Super", Froch "Super/Unified", Chudinov "interim".
MW: Golovkin "Super", Jacobs "Regular", winner Chudinov/Eubank jr "interim".
    LMW: Mayweather "Super", Lara "Regular".
    WW: Mayweather "Super", Thurman "Regular".
LWW: Garcia "Super", Vargas "Regular", Benavidez "interim".

Those are the 8 biggest weightclasses. 19 (!!!) beltholders (2.38 on average). One will be stripped soon but another will be added, so that evens out.

    :-(

Large Dan said Thurman didn't know until he asked him about it.

If I was Thurman I'd refuse to be recognized as a world champion until he wins abelt in the ring

I've been a fan for over a decade and I'm confused too. This is a disgraceful move by the WBA.

since boxing isn't a mainstream sport, having all these bogus federations (how can they be anything but bogus since they are all direct hurdles to establishing one credible body?) plays into the hands of both the federations and promoters.
casual fans aren't educated on the scandalous and self-indulgent 'rules' that allow belts to be as common as candy in boxing, so every corrupt player in the sport can profit from bogus 'world champions', because in what other sport is that term anything but credible?

Can I just say I don't like the idea of having more than one champion but if it is the way it will be then at least it works in the Welterweight division
