The WBA "Super" Middleweight belt won't be on the line for the fight between IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin and IBF Welterweight Champion Kell Brook. On July 22 K2 Promotions filed for a permission, which the WBA reviewed, and they came to the following conclusion: The determining factor was a boxer with such devastating punching power as Golovkin, entering a world title fight against a career-long welterweight. In addition the WBA has ruled that Golovkin and Jacobs will be ordered to enter negotiations for a mandatory title fight if they both win their next bouts (Jacobs is rematching Mora)
The WBA has nerve. If the most consistent Alphabet Org ,The IBF, can approve it why not the WBA and their litany of belts.
Doesn't really matter because Brook won win any belts here. Though I AM surprised, did they really passed on an opportunity to get fees for a belt ?!
Indeed they did. We've seen #1 contenders that didn't have a single decent win in 6 years against a hard hitting beltholder. They only withdrew their sanctioning of the Garcia vs Salka fight due to public outcry. But at least this is a slap in the face of the people that claim that this is somehow Golovkin's best opponent to date, which of course is completely ridiculous.
