The tournament plan will be presented by the WBC to the Mexican Boxing Federation in an attempt to improve amateur boxing in Mexico for both males and females. Fights will be held throughout the country in order to develop and give prestige to amateur boxing in Mexico. The WBC wants the best trainers possible and plans on inviting many former champions to become trainers and support the tournament. Mexico's last Olympic Boxing Medal came form Cristian Bejarano (Bronze).
I defo see the benefit... Pedigree But at the same time, Most of the younger dudes want/need to get paid. (So they say **** the AM's & go pro)
it is important because in the Amateurs they will develop skills like a jab, combos, and positioning that will make Mexican boxers more balanced. However, I think that in the next Olympics Mexico might be able to win a Gold and produce another "Golden Boy".
read a while back that multi-billionaire businessman CARLOS SLIM who owns many big businesses in mexico started endorsing 20 top amateur and young pro prospects and giving them an equivalent of $1000.00/mo. the only stipulations were that they had to concentrate totally on boxing, not get into any trouble and they would get dropped from the program if they lost 2 bouts in a row.
