From over there... First it was Anthony Crolla, then Jorge Barrios, but now it appears that hard-hitter Lucas Matthysse will face Erik Morales on Saturday September 17th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on the undercard of the clash between Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz. According to overseas reports, Barrios is having issues with his legal documents to leave the country and won't be able to make the fight with Morales. His countryman, Matthysse, has stepped in to take his place. The vacant WBC 140-pound title will be at stake. This should be fun! If Eric wants a belt, he's going to have to earn it.
Matthysse is a more rounded fighter and probably harder hitter than Maidana so this worries me for Morales even more than the Maidana fight did :-( Morales certainly has enough ring IQ to make it competitive enough but I do like Matthysse and would favor him to take this by a late stoppage. It's a shame in some ways for Morales but looking at it for Matthysse, he's arguably been robbed in 2 big fights (Judah and definitely Alexander) so he certainly deserves a title shot and I'm sure he will take it. Good luck to him. Now Khan vs Matthysse.....:hey
If Erik beats Matthysse, no one can complain about him fighting Khan. If Matthyse wins, I think Khan will fight with Robert Guerrero (if he wins) or Peterson.
Hate the fact this is for the paper title but it's still a good fight & hopefully sets ups a khan fight with Matthysse (assuming he wins).
:deal All Argie tear-up! If Lucas beats Morales and Khan fights someone else then Maidana/Mattyhsse is the best fight to make :yep
**** Matthyse! Matthyse Vs Maidana would be better. I'd prefer to see Morales take on Curtis Woodhouse next ;-)
:-( Knew this would happen after Morales did well against Maidana. Erik's finished. He could compete with Matthysse because he's not that great but I predict Morales will get cut to pieces and the fight will get stopped after 6 or 7 one sided rounds.
