It's another belt and more sanctioning fees, that's why I could see the other orgs following suit. I agree the first new weight division that should've been addressed was one inbetween light heavy and cruiser. This is just going to strip down an already lacking in depth heavyweight division. You could potentially lose Usyk, Gassiev, Wilder, Hunter, Povetkin to the new bridgerweight division, and more I'm sure. Not really beneficial to the heavyweight division which is supposed to be the flagship, glamour division of the sport. I think some of these contenders will still chose to fight at heavyweight given the chance, but that might change if all the orgs go with this. The cynic in me also wonders if the name of the new division, which is a nice gesture, don't get me wrong, is also a tool to deflect any incoming criticism.
I don't think the category should of between light heavy and cruiser. It makes sense to drop the cruiser limit towards LHW so its closer, then a weight category between that cruiser and HW.
The Light Heavyweight name needs changed to Light Cruiser, then we should have the Cruiserweight limit dropped downwards together with a new super cruiserweight weight division and limit brought in. Heavyweight should remain as one division with no limits at all on who fights in it.
Ridiculous idea, it would of made more sense to have introduced a Super Heavyweight weight category. As they say, if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it.
FFS I'm predicting more of these.. LadderWeight TightropeWeight. CorridorWeight. There will be 150 weight classes and fighters being 25 weight world champions by the year 2030.
