this just cracked me up when i read it. if the people look closely, pac's last world championship reign ended when he defeated MAB and relinquished his ibf superbantam title. he has then went on to claim the number 2 slot in the p4p without a world title. his amazing run at 126 and 130 did not come with titles.

i think this is just an abc organization trying to carry it's own chair. saying "hey pac, you're good and all but you don't amount to anything if you don't win our belt" boxings fans are too smart now. they don't need titles to show them what good fights/fighters are. well sure there are fights with belts on the line that were good, pavlik-taylor and jc-kessler but fights like pac-morales were really good and made good sales without a world championship on the line.

then news came out that jmm could move up to 135 with pac for a chance to fight him. which was a slap to wbc because their champ just showed them that having the title means nothing when you don't get into fights that people want to see, i.e., jmm-pac2.

belts are nice to have and all but in the end, the people will crown their champ. whoever wins between jmm and pac will be the superfeatherweight champ. with or without gold around his waist.

Pac getting hold of "the ring magazine" championship belt and defending that belt until he retires will do just fine for me.

If he can, he should try to get the Ring magazine Featherweight, Jr.Lightweight belts and possibly the Lightweight belt from Casa.

126 is too far for pac, i think. pac could have been a 6 division champ now if he chose to. 112, 115, 118, 122, 126 and 130. he didn't and still he ended up rather nicely

I see your points. But Pac should at least get a recognized title or 2 two before he hangs it up.

    Why?

    1. Businesswise, he'll be in a much more comfortable position to negotiate a purse if he carries a title. For example, JMM will of course point out that he is the champ thereby he should take the bigger purse. Pac will do the same and say that he is the draw. Had he been champ(let's say he beat valero), JMM can't ***** about anything about him being a champion as Pac is both a champ and the draw.

    2. No one in Asia has won three titles in as many weight class.(Oh no, Ring mag doesn't count). And Pac is in a perfect position to sieze that honor. Unless of course he doesn't wan't too.

    3. Regardless of how much a title means today(and it's very little), winning one(at least the highly recognized body, WBC etc.) will add to his legacy. He can make as much money as he can, but financial standing don't count when making a list of ATG. It's their achievements that's being looked upon. And the titles he won will always be under his name till he dies. Much like a diploma. As the great B-Hop said "Money you can make but history you can't lose."

From what i saw of Marquez, not so sure that this fight will be the barnburner it could have been, Marquez defence is slipping awfully.

As far as WBC goes and their claims, how about a nice plate of Shut the **** up.

Why don't they explain, how come Oleg Maskaev is the best heavyweight in the world, how come they took away Casamayor' title.

They mean zero now to pac he is a PPV fight around the world and means money and being able to make the big fights or who ever he won't to fight.

I know. And it's quite sad really.

He can win a title but he seems uninterested.

That's what you can say about DLH and PBF. They made sure they won a title on every stop. Now they are certified ATG.

Pac is an ATG, but he'll be low on the list.

pac doesn't need a belt to get a better purse. if jmm demands a n equal or higher purse than pac, he will simply turn his head the other way and face the other people at 135, anyone who will he give the biggest payday. if pac wants an instant belt, he could fight fana and ko him with the first three opunches that he connects.

and don't worry about an asian who'll be a three division champ, i know our boy is a clear underdog but we could all just lend our support to gerry penalosa. technicaly the finest pinoy boxer of our time

I myself doesn't give weight on these belts anymore.

But truly . . . WBC has a good point too. After so many years Pacquaio's name won't be glorified as it should be if he'll retired without a belt and not having won at least 3 division titles. That's the difference.
