    So, it's official:
The WBC also provides the chronological background facts:
    http://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/news/9917-wbc-lightheavyweight-division-status-clarification

Finally, they say they're analyzing the situation in depth and will issue an official ruling soon.

So, things are getting pretty serious, but I'm sure it will be good for boxing in general and to this WBC stagnation in particular.

Not much to analyse really, drop Alvarez, maybe punish him by not ranking him for 5 years for messing about. Install gvodsyk as the champion and mandate the winner of Stevenson jack has to face him within 6 months of there fight or is stripped.
By analysing it they mean they will waste away another few months

I saw some defend Alvarez on another site, like he was the victim here and not completely complacent in all of this.
He had chosen to step aside on multiple occasions, and he took fights with past it Bute and Pascal for bigger paydays. It being a win-win situation for him and the pimp alike, who never had to face a mandatory challenger again, while never allowing good upcoming fighters to get their shot.

The blame on the WBC in all of this, is that they didn't act on this scheme sooner, but rather when someone put a big spotlight on it.

WBC cant take care of a simple mandatory defense ruling? How pathetic.
Why are they so complicating this? Alvarez is already the mandatory. **** the interim title and **** Gvozdyk. Just get this **** done with Alvarez and then move on to Gvozdyk or w/e.

    Mutually Assured Duckastation

Props to Alvarez for having the wool pulled over my eyes until the last round of stepping aside. I expected him to bail on The Nail.

Because Alvarez has been the mandatory for more than two years already, and he has taken step-aside money not to fight the champion.

Alvarez should have decided long ago what he wants more — to have his cake or to eat it.

WBC allowed him to constantly step aside and that's how they ****ed up, i presume.
They should have just stated earlier that Alvarez can no longer step aside.
But no out of the blue they are ordering another eliminator? Its a move no one bothered to see through properly.

Alvarez was in his rights to skip the Gvozdyk fight.

I'm not sure about this... Yes, I would agree the situation is quite controversial, and WBC is far from completely innocent here, but, after all, it's their championship not Alvarez's. :)

So after years as the "duckee" chasing Stevenson the dude finally caught the ducking bug himself and the shoe is on the other foot?

What a hoot. Gotta love boxing.

But they allowed Alvarez to step aside, while he remained the mandatory.
WBC should have made some clarifications. But instead they just let him step aside.
"Yes you can step aside, but you will have to fight a top contender to keep the spot/ Yes you ca step aside and remain as the mandatory"

Right now it seems like the WBC came out of the blue with another eliminator. I agree that Alvarez should be fighting top contenders and not keep the title shot hostage, but i also agree with Alvarez. He fought his way to a title shot and he is the mandatory.

If it mattered that much to him he would have forced his mandatory along time ago.

The WBC is probably the only one who could've went along with this. They have never pushed for Stevenson vs Alvarez, on the contrary, they have been messing around too by posting on IG a Steveson vs Jack fightposter a couple months back, way before Alvarez has agreed to step-aside. What other boxing org does that ??

The Colombian could've sued them by now if he really wanted that title shot, so for sure he's also to blame. All in all Its a F up situation

The thing is, Alvarez was force to face Gvozdyk after refusing, this time, to step aside. Alvarez wanted the fight he was supposed to get as the mandatory and instead of forcing Stevenson to fight his mandatory, the WBC forced on Alvarez an other eliminator fight. Alvarez had complain in the pass that he was not getting his shot and the WBC told him all he had to do was to refuse to step aside. It is exactly what he did this time and instead of goind with their word, the WBC imposed an eliminator on Alvarez against a much tougher opponent.
