Actually it was all a setup orchestrated by GYM to allow Stevenson to fight whoever he wished, I have no sympathy for Alvarez.

So the WBC did tell Alvarez in October (?) 2017 that he had to refuse the latest step-aside offer, however GYM basically forced him (by financial incentive) to step-aside anyway in defiance of the WBC ruling.

So the WBC was actually quite generous to GYM:
    a) They let Stevenson take yet another voluntary instead of mandating Gvozdyk or someone else;
    b) Alvarez didn't lose his position, he merely had to fight another final eliminator to be reinstated.

    Thats not what I heard.

He agreed to step aside again in exchange for a guaranteed multi fight deal that paid him in the 6 figures every fight. The articles are out there.

It looks like he didn't like that the first fight in that pack was Gvozdyk.

For their part, GYM was probably just fine with it, seeing as how The Nail knocking Alvarez out wouldve nicely wrapped up the whole stupid saga and washed their hands of the nuisance they viewed him as.

Maybe you are right, I have a vague memory of that news now (six fights deal).

This is what i was looking for, the point B.
Alvarez's team made it look like WBC came out of the blue with the Gvozdyk eliminator.

Unfortunately, I don't see it coming... I really would like Jack to win this, though.

Some good news at last (it's from their website, so it's official: http://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/news/9993-wbc-light-heavyweight-division-status223 )!

"The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of the following resolution:

    1. The WBC will sanction the WBC interim title fight between Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Mehdi Amar, on March 17th in New York.
    2. The WBC will sanction Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack on May 19th.
    3. The winners of both bouts will fight with a split percentage of WBC champion 65%, WBC interim champion 35%.
    4. Eleider Alvarez will maintain the mandatory status to fight the winner of the champion vs interim champion."

Alvarez is full of crap! Gvozdyk should be fighting Stevenson next!

And that's the plan. Alvarez will maintain the mandatory status for the winner of Stevenson/Jack vs Gvozdyk fight.

So, the Stevenson-Jack fight was a draw, and Adonis retains his championship belt. I'm afraid this can even complicate the LH situation... Will there be a rematch with Badou Jack? Will the WBC force a fight with the Interim champion (Gvozdyk)?
What are chances that Stevenson will retire now or move up to fight Bellew for money (I believe the Stevenson-Jack fight was rather a flop commercially and I doubt there'll be more money in the rematch)?
