No. GBP and K2 are currently negotiating. They need more time to negotiate, so they've been given another week. Apparently they've been negotiating before the Canelo/Cotto fight happened.

    From boxing scene:

"The winner, Canelo, is committed to face GGG. Golden Boy and K2 have been in talks even before the fight (Cotto-Canelo) and I'm waiting. I have always given them the freedom to negotiate and they will notify us tomorrow (Friday) on the status of their progress and that we will know the result." - Mauricio

"Sulaiman is talking about letting Canelo get in a voluntary defense of his WBC middleweight title next May."

Why is this shocking? Canelo will follow Cotto's blueprint of forcing everyone to come in at 155 or no fight. Since Canelo is a bigger name than Cotto the WBC will grant him plenty of leniency in his title defenses.

If K2 is firm, WBC will have to strip Canelo. There is a signed contract where Canelo commits to fight GGG next. All allegations about possibility of a voluntary defense by Canelo belong to Dan Ambrose.

7-day extension is absolutely reasonable though.

Oh okay, so you didn't. That writer did. Mauricio never said anything about a voluntary defense. The writer presumed that.

On a side not, WBC prez can't give Canelo a voluntary defense. He has stated many times that the WBC ruling is clear, even repeated it in the boxing scene statement. By-passing Golovkin would have to be agreed to by K2 in some sort of step-aside. We don't know if K2 is refusing a step aside, or if GBP and K2 are in talks to fight next. None of that.

Not your fault you thought that. Writers need to keep their opinions out of their articles or else it confuses readers. Hope I cleared that up.
