:tired This content is protected WBC and Martinez agree to allow Chavez Jr. voluntary defense on February 4 The WBC ordered by unanimous votes that the mandatory defense of WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has to be against the diamond champion Sergio Martinez but also allowed that if both parties reach an agreement, they can have voluntary defenses and then the winner of each bout fight between them for the WBC title. Chavez Jr called WBC President Jose Sulaiman to ask his approval for his voluntary defense on February 4, so the Sulaiman called Sergio Martinez who accepted that Chavez Jr. be allowed to fight because he will also fight in March, so both boxers agreed to a fight between them after their voluntary defenses. wtf :tired
DiBella claims this never happened, and the article doesn't exactly look particularly credible, not that I don't believe Sulaiman is capable of this or anything.
its really not bad chavez v rubio . not a bad fight yeah jr will prolly win but it mite be competive this rubio guy is good but he gettin up there in age. martinez vs macklin is deffinently fan friendly then we get a good fight after that so it all works out .
If Chavez shows the same improvement against a quality MW like Rubio then I would really hesitate to make Martinez as big a favorite against him as most... he's just so damn big as a MW.
I never took seriously Sulaimans threats to strip Chavez Jr should he not fight Martinez. This guy likened Jr to a son and the reason he stripped Martinez in the first place was so Jr would get a shot at it without having to fight him. He also stated not long ago the plan was for Chavez Jr to have several easy defences till 2013 or 2014 and only then did he expect a big fight with Alvarez to happen. With so much at stake for a potential Chavez-Alvarez fight, DiBella and Martinez would be foolish to wait around putting their faith in Sulaiman and the WBC to do the right thing.
Bob Arum/Chavez Sr. sent him a check? I doubt anyone else in the division, outside of marching over to Germany would be able to give him anywhere near the payday to fight.
