Finishing someone’s career does not meant killing someone.

Good point. Wilder is an example of how nasty those Russians can be!

No, I did not like those comments of Kovalev's.

Also, Wilder's comments go further than those comments.

Are those really the only two alternatives or are you just trotting out a false dichotomy? There are thousands of boxers who talk from the heart without reading from a script who don't say these kind of things. You don't need to be a script reading robot to understand that in a sport where tragedy is just around the corner it's better to show a basic level of respect for human life in general and that of your opponent in particular. There but for the grace of god etc... To say nothing of the way it plays into the hands of those that would ban the sport.

Wilder needs some help. At times he speaks really well. He's honest, respectful, thoughtful even. He's every inch the champion. I like his back story, however confected, and when his adrenaline is down and he has a chance to think he can speak really well. But whether through outside advice or his own lack of judgment there's increasingly another side to him. Most of the time he's just spouting nonsense so he can be ignored, but then he steps way beyond the bounds, not of propriety but of fundamental human decency. I wonder if he's being advised to do this to generate more buzz and increase his earning potential? In which case I don't think he's being well advised. Alternatively this is the 'real' Wilder, in which case the sooner he's out of the picture at the top level and no longer spewing moronic drivel that damages the sport, the better.

This is pathetic are we now going to censor guys who participate in one of the most violent sports in the world? We sit here as fans of boxing every week and cheer on sanctioned violence but now we want to be sensitive to the verbal sparing and trash talking that goes on in sport. I can remember a fighter saying he wanted to eat another fighters children, where was the uproar then.

The WBC needs to punish him by enforcing Dillian Whyte as his next mandatory. That seems to be the thing that would bother Deontay the most!

He should cop a ban for these comments.

People do die in the ring and these comments are extreely offensive.

Wilder is going off the rails. I see this guy in a mental ward with old buddy Zelenoff soon.

    Precisely.

Mike Tyson threatened to sexually molest fighters and eat their children like they were happy meals, yet it was lapped up by all his fans.

I personally found it hilarious, this is what helps make the sport what it is.

Alternative we can have generic cookie cutter interviews like they have with the footballers over here in Britain, where they all say the same thing after a game because of how hard they are media trained to avoid saying anything controversial.

That was Tyson on Lewis and the resulting uproar contributed to him being denied a license to box in Nevada.

In fact it's interesting you bring up Tyson because a lot of the more moronic statements look like a lame attempt to follow the Iron Mike copybook. I think those 'baddest man on the planet' soundbites were probably uttered with the same aim in mind.

The sad part about this is that it's actually a very dated way of promoting yourself. The renaissance in boxing in the UK hasn't come about through this sort of pantomime theatrics, although it does still occur. Sure it appeals to schoolboys but for adult boxing fans it's been the actual sport that's engaged their interest. It's mainly been through competitive fights that have captured the public imagination. Fights where everything is on the line and the favoured boxer may actually lose.

Joshua is out earning Wilder by a massive proportion and he's not doing it by threatening his opponents lives. He doesn't treat every interview as a desperate chance for fleeting headlines, social trending or page clicks. Something for Deontay and his marketing team to think about next time they're scripting this offensive rubbish?

What he said is despicable but, getting punished (whatever that means) by a corrupt organization of people that have most likely done and said things far worse is almost comically stupid…However, it would be consistently inconsistent for the wbc, which is fitting given the many despicable things fighters, promoters, managers, officials have done and said over the years…and necessary to avoid an extensive disciplinary list…

That said, the wbc has the right to protect it’s horrible and corrupt image however it sees fit…

Yes that is the only alternative.

You start censoring what fighters can and can't say and we are left with watered down scripted interviews.

If a fighter has a problem with another saying they intend to kill them in the ring, then it's his job to make sure that he isn't the victim.

It's a fight at the end of the day, a gladiator sport, we don't need SJW's sticking their oars in, neutering the fighters and making the sport PC friendly.

Let me ask you, did you have this much of a problem when Mike Tyson was going off on his tirades? Or are you going to tell me it was different back then?

Wilder knew what he was doing, lose the belt outside of the ring so that Whyte and AJ stop hunting his ass down
