Press release today - Cotto not followed their rules and regulations

Canelo can win title but if Cotto wins he will not retain belt

    Great news!

His "run" at MW has been a f*cking farce with his diva-like demands for catch-weights.

Sergio hit the nail on the head about Cotto being a diva, but I never saw it until he went to 160.

I used to admire Cotto a lot, but he ducked GGG. Simple. I'd love to see GG main that man. Still, Canelo/GGG would be awesome!

About time, how can you be recognized as the 160lb champion when you've never fought at 160, baffling. Same goes for Canelo, if he beats Cotto, I'm not interested in anymore catch-weight titles for the MW title.

In fairness to Cotto - and I'm one of his biggest detractors on this board - he was following Pacquiao's blueprint when it came to catchweights. He thinks because Manny was recognised as a legitimate champ without fighting at the full weight against him and others that he can get away with the same BS.

For the record it wasn't right when Floyd drained Canelo either.

This is modern boxing, diva 'superstars' creating their own weight divisions.

Cotto is a legend, but this is good news. If you are 160lbs champion, fight opponents at 160lbs. Give proper middleweights the opportunity to fight for the belt. This catchweight nonsense is a joke.

At the risk of sounding a bit thick:

I keep hearing that GGG is mandatory for the winner of this weekends fight. Can someone explain to my why/how this is possible when he holds belts for two other organisations.

he holds the wbc silver belt... taken from martin murray,

  11. Cotto has never fought at 160. It's an insult to legendary MW belt holders that he held the title of "lineal champ".

Nope, he's the interim WBC champion by beating Rubio, and Murray having the Silver belt only made him the next in line.

If Cotto wins or it ends a draw, then Golovkin gets elevated to full WBC champion immidiately.
If Canelo wins, he becomes the WBC champ and has to comply with fighting Golovkin (the interim) within 15 days or be stripped.

  13. 15 days?! Surely 90 as standard?

Only to agree to the fight, not all the details.
They do this to prevent further stalling, wich has gone on for too long already.

  15. In theory great, in practice don't see it happening. 30 days would be better.
