I've read the WBC regulations and I did not see any clause saying Whyte would lose the WBC interim title if he went for the WBO mando as long as the WBC are informed and approve it, and as long as Whyte remains active with the WBC in advance of the interim award, and provided he is injury free and drug free should a sactioned WBC bout be ordered. Yes Usyk can call the WBO mando and get ahead of Whyte, I have read the WBO regulations too. It is unlikely he will, and the WBO defense for AJ will get called on 20th March
IF he beats DB, otherwise he slides down. My point being he ducked a guaranteed title shot to make a fight that MAY lead to a title shot, IF he wins. Certified DUCK
You put it that way it does make him look bad, he had a guaranteed title shot, record payday and now he's opting for an eliminator for a mandatory shot for the perceived weaker champion, for less money and based on the WBC's track record he still might not get a title shot at Wilder for years. Does sound like a duck when you lay it all out like that.
Have you considered that he's done exactly what Hearn wanted him to? Kept possibility of AJ UK fight open whilst Eddie negotiates on alternatives and then once the fight is ruled out Hearn gets to keep his two big UK PPV draws apart whilst also pursuing the WBC path and thus creating pressure on the winner of Fury Wilder?
If Whyte beats breazeale for all intensive purposes Whyte becomes champ as interim champ not just a mandatory.
I'd argue that Hearn didn't get what he wanted really. He's lost out financially by scrapping the Wembley date, he did a lot of work trying to save that date from trying to make Khan/Brook, rumours of even Wlad being offered money to return. Don't think he would of been working so hard to save the date if he didn't have any intention of making Joshua/Whyte. I mean people were saying it was a sure thing since Dec last year or earlier and now people suggesting it was all a ruse and was never going to happen. It's laughable how people keep changing the narrative to suit their opinions. Even if what you say is correct, Whyte only needed to agree to the fight and that scuppers his plans. Plus with Whyte going to the US and reaching out to people, don't think Hearn was even that sure he'd keep Whyte, remember they are only on a fight by fight deal.
Probably, who knows. Maybe he tries to go the WBC route if he can't get the big pay out he wants. Whyte clearly is looking for a very significant payday and Hearn's last offers were nowhere near what Whyte wants for the fight according to Whyte himself. Whyte says the fight is worht £30 mill, if he gets 25% of the purse as mandatory he gets £7.5 mill but with Hearn having offered £5-6 mill it seems even 25% might not be enough for Whyte. If Whyte is looking for more than 25% which he obviously won't get if it goes to purse bids then maybe he looks to go the WBC sit on his mandatory WBC status a keep making a couple of mill per fight. But then I can't see how he makes more vs Wilder or Fury as neither of them draw as much as Joshua. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't doubt Whyte's heart or desire to fight Joshua, he's a risk taker if anything, but as I've said to you before he's pricing himself out of the fight. Joshua doesn't need Whyte, he only faces him now as a mandatory so if Whyte is ever to fight Joshua he'll need to go the WBO mandatory route.
Fair points man, Whyte doesn't mind even 20 per cent split if the rematch clause ain't there... thats how much he backs himself. Whyte has built himelf up in a strong market... he will have plenty of money fights along the way to a titleshot and after a titleshot if he doesnt beat AJ or Wilder/ Fury. Hearn was the one saying 30 million was the estimated pot for a rematch with joshua and by my estimations thats about right. AJ doesnt need Whyte... but its a big pay day for him if he is in the business of making money. How much longer can he fight Miller'esque opponents after pricing himself out of the other big three fights. Of course Whyte won't make as much money in a WBC title fight as with AJ but thats not the point. The plan has always been to get the WBC belt and return to Joshua or position himself as mandos in multiple sanctioning bodies to increase his leverage in purse negotiations. He is in good position and AJ aint going anywhere anytime soon.... still time left to remake it. All roads lead to AJ for money and legacy worth rinsing for as much as possible.. you don't get this opportunity all the time. If he loses he will still be well off and then you have more fight opportunities after AJ because he puts on a good show against anyone... he wont fight like a Charles Martin or a Breazeale... he'll give the fans memories.
You're right the plan for a long time was the secure the WBC belt, though with Wilder now becoming a bigger draw in the US and a proven solid PPV draw against the right opponent I suspect Hearn will want to make Joshua/Wilder before Whyte get's his shot. Hence why Joshua is now debuting in the US to build that fight. I think that's plan A for Hearn, but if that doesn't work out and Wilder keeps ducking then he has Whyte to take the WBC belt from him and then he unifies with Joshua for truly stupid money and probably breaks the UK PPV record. Whyte is in a very nice position, he's one of the few heavies that can make very good money, Christ he's making more than Wilder was before Fury and he doesn't even have a real belt. Risk for Whyte is he's too much of a risk taker and loses before his title shot.
Breazeale has mediocre skills. He has been lucky and already had a title shot. It would be better for boxing is Whyte wins and he should do exactly that.
