You've simply highlighted the stupidity of the rules, congratulations.

To make fights more fair. Unfortunately, due to safety reasons now boxers can abuse this system and claw their way down to a weight class they don´t belong at.

"Everyone has the same opportunity" Ffs, the whole point is to make the fights more fair by matching up guys of similar size. And the day before weigh ins were implemented to prevent brain injuries due to weight cuts. But oh no, some are abusing the system even harder now, thus beating it´s purpose.
Victor Ortiz was reportedly 164lbs on fight night vs Floyd Mayweather. They fought at welterweight. When Bernard Hopkins entered the ring vs Jermain Taylor, he was 168lbs.
    Modern boxing is a joke.

*yes, I know, day before weighins were already in place by the time Hopkins won his first belt. I meant to highlight how ridiculous weight cuts have gotten in the 2000s.

OK Sweetie lol When was the last time any State Commission did their job & enforced the rules & investigated these infractions ??? They don't do a damn thing. A guy breaks 3 of a commissions own rules on saline drip use for dehydration. When asked the commission stated. " He did nothing wrong so we will not be investigating ?!!!
Then the icing on the cake. They issued him a TUE for the illegal saline 21 days after he was caught receiving it even though he knew must apply for a TUE first
Another state commission snatched away a boxers license to box in the state for over 2 years because they SUSPECTED!! he MAY have tried to cheat but had no proof of it.
YOU are the one needs to realize whats going on sweetie !!! Have a nice day

So you couldn't find a single example of someone ever losing their world title when their opponent failed to make weight. No surprise there. At least you learnt something.

No reigning champion should lose their title when beaten by someone who doesn't make weight.

I can understand that if he'd refused to fight Garcia for not making weight then he should have kept his title BUT he didn't he went ahead with the fight, He Never ONCE claimed it was a not title fight until AFTER he got blasted out lol He should have been stripped of the title like Loma was, UNFAIRLY. Really in all reality Loma should be world champion today

It automatically reverted to a non-title fight as soon as the challenger failed to make weight.

Like it or hate it, the official weigh in is when you HAVE to make weight and recapture of weight up to fight time is allowed with certain caveats.

Garcia didn’t make official weight, therefore it was CORRECTLY deemed a NON TITLE fight.

How any contentions otherwise have gained legs for any discussion is mind boggling.

Did Garcia genuinely try to make weight? I could guess that he didn’t - and smugly so. He confidently said he would make weight leading into the fight.

I’ve read he had a bet to pay Haney $500 k for every pound over = 1.5 mil - which might’ve, in some ways, locked Haney into fighting him if Garcia did weigh over the limit. I’ve also read that the money has been paid over.

Easy to conclude that Garcia wanted the win more than the belt and that Haney wanted the 1.5 mil at the risk of fighting a stronger Garcia BUT with the title obviously not on the line.

Has Garcia himself inappropriately moaned about not being awarded the title or that it should be made vacant? I’ve not heard same. Lack of any complaint supports the belief that Garcia knew the score - even if others some how didn’t or were falsely led into believing otherwise.

I’ve also read claims that Garcia bet 2 mil on himself for a return of 12 mil to take in a total of 50 mil (including his purse).

Some might see issues with him doing that, especially if he deliberately didn’t try to make weight - though I don’t know when the alleged bet was claimed to have been placed.

Finally, for curio value, were they actually weighed come fight time?

I know the CSAC actually recorded Haney and his opponent’s in ring weights for his last fight - Haney made the official weight of 140 lb but amazingly weighed about 165 lbs come fight time - about 7 lbs more than his opponent who recaptured about 18 lbs himself to weigh 158 lbs on fight night.

The opponent didn’t have proof but he suspected that Haney might’ve illegally used an IV for rehydration etc for such a weight recapture over just a few days.

Are you stupid? Ask Joey Gamache if ring weight is more important.

Rules state if the challenger fails to make weight he can NOT win the title but if the champion loses he forfeits the title & it becomes vacant. ROFL But these days who abides by the rules its do as you want just keep making us $$$$$$$$$$$

I still can not believe the utter stubbornness of some people on this forum. You can not defend the belt against some one that is above the weight class. You don't punish the champ that makes weight by putting the belt on the line against someone above the weight class.
