Oh yeah I forgot about that Ryan didn't make weight so he doesn't get the belt. I bet he wishes he made weight now
Yes and no. Garcia weighed as close to the next division up as he did to the one they fought in. Roberto Duran got slapped around by Esteban DeJesus when he was world lightweight champ with BOTH over the weight and that didn't affect him too much did it? The way Haney got beaten and by whom, sure his lustre is gone right now but he still has the title and with it some sort of chance to try and rebuild. Him being champ means heaps. He can demand more money as the champ and he still has a truckload of guys still wanting to fight him to chase the title. This gives him the chance of luring bigger names in a chase for redemption and ultimately might get him a fast rematch with much more strict stipulations on the weight topic. Sit back, take it all in and look at it logically.
This has happened before. I don't see it as Haney getting special treatment. My advice to you, for what it's worth, just take the enjoyment that Haney got whooped tonight.
He can demand all he wants He's a boring ass fighter who got by on being unbeaten. Now he's been whipped by a barely trained mentally ill social media star The fact he has to pretend to be Muslim to get fans says all you need to know about how boring he is as a fighter. He's finished
I never said other. He's not finished yet however as surely he has at least one more decent payday at the very worst you'd think and if it's a rematch it'll be good money.
I'm coping? Like i get emotionally invested in these guys like so many seem to. You're knee jerk reacting an it shows in your posts. Let it all sink in. I couldn't care less who won today or about either fighter. Actually it was pretty refreshing to see a great bizarre fight and an upset so i'm happy Garcia won. It was great entertainment and i would have hated to see him get robbed. You're just not thinking clearly and your original comment was blatantly incorrect Mark. Take the emotion out. Everyone knows he got exposed but that title is still going to mean quite a bit. Lomo beat him anyway.
That's how I thought it was. Haney Losing the fight was going to mean a vacant title. But its makes sense to have Devon remain champion. Hypothetically, let's say Bud Crawford calls out Devon and contracts to come down to 140, stating that he fought at 140 before and he'll dod so again . Devon agrees as the prospect of two undefeated undisputed champions facing off would mean big, big money. Some time into Bud's camp, he realizes that he can no longer get down to 140, so he decides to stop trying and weighs in at 155,the day before and around 170 on fight night. Devon agrees to go ahead on account of the mega $$$. He stops Devon in round two. Should Devon lose his title ? Is there a cut off below which a guy in Devon should lose the belt. If his challenger weighs in at 140.5, and Devon loses, you could make a bit of a case. But if the challenger weighs in 15 lbs over (two weight classes), then Devon gets token his belt ?
