WBC thinking of bringing open scoring to fights in the US

The only way I would support this is if it were limited. Like, fully open scoring for the first three rounds, or a "half time" score roundup.

 

You'll get fighters trying to coast. But then you'll get fighters really going for it when they know they are behind.

Is a bad idea all it does is give the crowd a little more influence in the scoring. As soon as they post a score on the screen the crowd will go crazy if they dont agree with it. The judges would be intimidated or influenced and in turn give the benefit of the doubt to the local fighter in every close or not so close round.

And secondly why does it has to only be in the US if the WBC is going to do something like that they should make it mandatory everywhere not just the US. And lastly why is he weighing in on this fight. WBC wasnt involved at all he sounds more like jmm lawyer or manager than the president of a boxing governing belt.

This further proofs that he favors mexican fighters all the time. WBC and sulaiman are the should be rename the MBC mexican boxing championship.

The reason that the WBC open scoring sucks donkey balls is its tendency to make fighters want to quit.

A prime example is 2008 when Sam Peter quit on his stool like a ***** when he still had every chance in the remaining 4 rounds to win the fight.

As mentioned above, the surprise that you get from judges decisions overrides the question of whether you should use it for nerfing robberies in fights. Such as the one last Saturday.

 

Could you have the people scoring it, watching it on a screen in a completely differant room.

Why do they even need to be ringside now. They could watch it in a seperate room with no noise (definetly not with HBO COmmentary on)

Maybe with the option to slow down a few exchanges when needed,

Were in the future now guys. The technology is there, may as well use it.

 

They already do it outside the US. Usually at four-round intervals.

Open scoring is garbage IMO.

Let's use Vitali Klitschko's comeback card in Berlin, where it was used.

Vitali is so far ahead that Sam Peter quits on his stool. The announced scoring was big in that. A trainer can't even lie to a guy and say he is in it anymore to keep a big puncher trying. Maybe Briggs doesn't get the 12th rd KO of White Wolf in an open scoring siutation...though that was stupidity anyways. But things like that are influenced.

Also on that card was Chauncy Welliver vs Odlanier Solis. Welliver has told me personally that it was somewhat demoralizing to know that he was down so far in the fight. He had thought he had nicked or fought even the first 2 or 3 rounds. Then, later in the fight, because it is known to all to be so wide, the ref stops Welliver prematurely. The guy had never been down in almost 300 HW rounds, and he never went down that night...he was throwing a punch as the ref jumped in. No respect for a guy who was never down or stopped before. And it was in large part due to open scoring.

That comeback card is a great example of open scoring at its worst. Both those fights were WBC fight. World Title and International Title fights.

 

Sod that. Boxers will just quit/coast depending on where they stand round wise.

Obviously not all of them, but it will happen.

 

Id much rather a judges scorecards be made public and then if dodgy go before panel of some kind to suspend said judge or even ban them, in the end a **** scorecard takes food off a fighters table in the future and a **** judge gets away with it, perhaps the threat of suspension or a permanent ban would eliminate temptation to hand in stupid scorecards. Unfortunately i cant ever see something like that coming in, not unless the world governing bodies all decided that was the way forward.

 

it would make the sport less interesting if you found out a fighter was way ahead on the cards when a fight looks real close. part of the joy of boxing is not knowing who is winning and axiousky waiting for the scorecards to be read which would cause contentment or drama in the aftermath.

 

i think it would increase fighters running in the final rounds if you know that your ahead on the cards why would you engage

 

I just want brains to be used AFTER a fight if the wrong decision has been made. Thats all.

 

theres lots of pros and cons but i think the main con is that it can take a lot of drama away from a fight which is a big turn off for tv.

And obviously tv money is big big big so they dont want to do that.

 

A referee and judges league would be better imo - and also make them explain their decisions after the fight
