If Rodel fails to sign the contract to fight Omar Nino on February 27, 2010 within 8 days he will be stripped of his title. The WBC should force all champions to fight quality opposition. However, this decision reflects that many people feel that Rodel cheated his way into the title.
This is just another example of the Alphabets' bull****. Fighters can be inactive for as long as they like and still keep their titles, but Mayol is probably going to be stripped of his for not immediately doing a mandatory. The WBA have been doin the same **** to Amir Khan, first Salita who was an embarassment, and then Maidana who somehow holds an interim title despite losing to Kotelnik.
Mayol is lucky they let him have the title at all, the way he won. I wouldn't bave been surprised if they said he didn't win it because he won on an intentional headbutt.
your boy didnt deserve a tittle shot in the first place, after that embarassing performance against Calderon then Sosa. 3 dam headbutts in a row are you serious?
I think Politics are evident in this decision. It seems unfair, however, Rodel has a contract signed to defend his jr flyweight title against a fighter that is not ranked by the WBC. Furthermore, his opponent is a minimum weight fighter coming off of a loss.
These sanctioning bodies need to be closed. I used to love hoe MAB would never pay the fees and would just fight as the ring champion. If all fighter took this attitude they would be ruined.
The ref said that the headbutt was unintentional, so they can't take his title away, even though we all know it was intentional as he's done it before. A lesser fighter than Sosa would have quit after the headbutt and taken a NC, but that doesn't get in the way of the fact that they are forcing a mandatory on him right after winning the title. I mean, if they didn't want him to have the title they should have just not awarded it to him.
