Sulaiman seems to not believe PBF's retirement until he hears it personally from Floyd. He states that the WBC will keep PBF as their champ. So Berto will actually be fighting for an interim championship. I guess someone doesn't want to give up those sanctioning fees.
The official word is Suliman will not remove Floyd as champ until he has written confirmation from Floyd and his people that he is retired ..
well why the **** has he not had a mandatory for the belt since he ****ing won it??? its a joke! klitschko is doing his best to unify the heavyweight div. and is forced into 2 mandatories while this little cocky twat gets to sit back and choose what belt he wants, (e.g. 154 or 147) when and who he'lll defend it against! ridiculous. there is no way in hell from november 2006 to june 2008 (now) he hasn't had a mandatory. absolute joke. well done to the little fat man for adding to the controversy and corruption of this great sport. cheers jose!
they cant keep him champ just because they believe he hasn't retired. i mean i know he will be back, and every1 else knows but the fact his on paper he has retired.
Basically, the WBC is going "you're a big fat liar and we don't want to lose out on any cash if you come back"...warms your heart, doesn't it?
Floyd hasn't fought any significant welterweight since winning the WBC title from Baldomir in 2006. That should be enough to strip the welterweight title from him if he keeps choosing fighters on the basis of $$$ and popularity. Plus, he fights fighters from one division up or down from the welterweight division.
It makes sense ... the WBC let Maskaev hold his belt a year and a half before mandating him to fight Peter. They stand to make alot of Money with Floyd being their champion than any one else that might hold the title. He's had their belt since 98 and each weight class he's been in he's won the green belt. (besides that IBF fight with Judah) I had a feeling that they were going to do that ... but why make Berto your #1 contender?
maskaev was mandated to fight peter ages ago but got injured. its not the same with floyd, he's just not been told he's had a mandatory since he won it, not even eliminators have been fought. only until now.
All of this shouldn't be made out to be more special than it is, cuz the Ring magazine did exactly the same thing with regards to Floyd's WW-title.
Really, the guy who won other WW title and then moved down to 140lb was Floyd WBC mandatory .... how convenient?
So once he's mandated to fight, what deadline you think they would give PBF? I remember Humberto Soto defending his interim belt at the same time Injin Chi was champion. or Jorge Arce when he defended his WBC interim flyweight title 4 times when Wonjongkam was champion ... Wonjongkam was never stripped of his title during his 6 yr reign and fighting non top tier contenders.
Its simple ... some guys must fight mandatory, some other not .... the question is how much should you pay out of the pocket to belong to the second group?
