"At the age of 37, any ban will put a significant question mark on Povetkin's ability to return to the top from any lengthy spell out of action as the former champion stands in a similar position to Lucas Browne. "

Looks like it's going to be a very lengthy ban

That is so stupid. This is going to lead to the WBC getting sued I'm sure. Povetkin is probably going to lose this lawsuit going on that he has with Wilder though, but that case is pretty idiotic in the way it is being handled.

How is it stupid? The guy should be banned for life, he has been caught several times now. He is a cheater.

Meldonium does nothing and it is banned under a quantitative amount which he was within the limits. Also it was recently banned and it isn't conclusive how long it takes to get out of your system in the first place.

As far Ostarine, that is substance that does give you benefits and should be banned. It has been banned since 2008 so on the surface it doesn't have the tricky nuances of the case with the meldonium. Problem is, you have to keep taking Ostarine for an extended period of time to maintain those gains. The tests on the later dates didn't detect any trace of the substance meaning he got nothing from them on fight night. Also, what they found were just 30 picograms. If he was using it directly they would have found much more than that. Ostarine is a substance that is actually given to animals to enhance their growth. Povetkin's story of that substance coming from food makes sense considering how little they found in his system.

This POS needs to be banned. How many times can you test dirty and still be allowed to fight?

I'm no medical expert, are you? But if someone is consistently failing drugs tests then that is enough. If he's failing these tests because of food (lol) then why aren't all the other athletes failing as well for eating "food".

Russian sports are plagued with doping, and the fact that Povetkin has been caught out yet again is no surprise.

My guess: They will soon announce Povetkin - Browne in Moscow. Battle of the roid heads.

I don't know all the rules or stipulations on what a fighter can or can't test positive for. But if it was determined that he was using a banned substance regardless of what it was and was caught more than once then I'm okay with the ban. Common sense - if you get caught with a banned substance in your system and are warned not to use it again, then don't..... Simple...

They have no real official ability to actually stop fights from taking place in Russia and parts of Europe, right?

Yes, because drug cheats NEVER mask or flush substances from their systems.

The tests before the positive for meldonium were also clean, then suddenly it appears. So he took it after the last clean test. And failed to flush it all.

I would love to see some data on how often an elite athlete tests positive for huge amounts. Never happens because they do everything possible - masking and flushing - to keep from testing positive. So when it shows up, it's what little is left that hasn't been masked or flushed.

Dude failed the test. Again. The promoter said the B sample would be clean. It isn't. Now it's "he ate food." Was he not eating food before?

This. I know they have some authority through connections but all they can do is suspend him from their own rankings.
All Povetkin needs to fight is a licence and i doubt it would be difficult for him to get one.

Some of them are. Haven't there been cases of Mexicans and people that have gone to Mexico failing because of stuff they put in meat. Like Salido and some other guy?
