http://www.worldboxingleague.com/ Good idea or bad idea??? Their basically doing what the IFL did in MMA and making a team sport out of one on one sport. Basically in a format similar to High School and College wrestling Based on a feature they have on their web-site, "Value to the Boxers", it looks good on paper but i doubt it will translate when it is intrumented. Here is what they have listed regular salary no monies taken by promoters, managers, trainers, etc. incentive based pay, based on performance, i.e.: playoffs, world cup, world individual championships, all star team, etc. support of a team environment steady predictable work open scoring competitive matches health insurance life insurance disability insurance retirement planning career counseling investment advice potential for endorsements safety requirements for all boxers patented scoring methodology The IFL has worked for MMA, but that sport also works under one banner basically (UFC), where they are signed for a period of time, unlike boxing where it is more freelance and you fight when you want to fight based on a promoter and televison networks agendas. How do you guys feel about this?
It needs organized as one sport, but **** A TEAM CONCEPT:-( This is the ultimate 1 on 1 sport:yep and its 100+ years deep in that game.
teams in boxing? I dont see this working at all. Its not a terrible idea, but I cant see this working out.
It is a terrible idea. It goes against every grain of hsitory and makes NO SENSE. Who's the champ aint a multiple person answer, that's part of our current problem with 6 "belts" per division:good
I like the idea of a minor league is gives boxers who aren't A level another oppirtunity to make some dough ..I'd be interested in contacting them and learning more about it ..
One sanctioning body with solid corporate backing would be enough to fix things. A "league" is too much. All you need is a single legit sanctioning body that is too well funded to be corrupt in any particular direction. - Jason
id give it a shot. it might be an interesting way for newbies to come up through the ranks but i dont think id like it if they tried to use established boxers
