Cotto's strap up for grabs by Manny Pacquiao

Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel, lawyer and president of the World Boxing Organization, is not tone deaf.

Valcarcel has heard the cry from the millions of Manny Pacquiao fans and those who devoutly follow the fistic fortunes of Boricua Bomber Miguel Angel Cotto.

As I reported, Cotto has thought he could hold the WBO welterweight title hostage and use it as a blackjack on the head of the Pacquiao-Cotto Nov. 14 promoter Bob Arum.

I caught up with Valcarcel as he was going through airport security somewhere and we had a brief conversation Friday afternoon.

Whatever happens in Cotto’s money play with Top Rank’s top dog, Valcarcel said that Pacquiao fans, Cotto fans and fight fans in general can relax.

“I know that Manny is looking to make boxing history. I can appreciate that as he goes after the very tough Cotto for a seventh weight division world title,” Valcarcel said.

“You can tell all the people right now, the WBO title will be on the line. You’ve got a highly respected champion fighting the Number One contender. It would be ridiculous for this not to be for the title.

Mixed thoughts in my mind here , on one hand yes the fight should be a title fight as the WW limit is 147 key word being limit , therefore 145 falls between 140 and 147 in essence making this a WW fight .

However im gonna continue to bang this drum , if Manny Pacquiao wants to fight the worlds top WW's and fight for WW title's then ****ing fight @147 or at least allow your opponent to weigh in @147 !!!!!!

Once again Pacquao's abilty to draw PPV crowds has prevailed that and Roach's crafty ness in getting his man the upper hand !!!!!!

This is something i actually see Roach not being all together happy with if im honest as this will rank Pac among 147 lb'ers and as we know he hovers just below that in the catchweight department , mmmmm......... if Manny wins i think the WBO belt will be vacated shortly after !!!!!

This is obviously what should be done. 145 was the weight Cotto agreed to. If he didn't want to risk the belt all he had to do was not accept the fight. My question is though, if Pacquiao wins the belt, how will that play out for future WW fights? Will the WBO remove the belt from Pac if he doesn't defend it? Not so sure how that plays out - someone care to fill me in?

If it's for the belt, there should be no catchweight.

If Pac does gain the belt and doesn't vacate, surely his next fight, the opponent should weigh in at 147?

Should Pac win, his next fight would probably be against Mayweather and Roach has stated they doesnt mind a 147 fight against Mayweather.

Why should the title at 147 be on the line when the fight isn't at 147?

The title is 'at 147', it's at welterweight.
