    From BBN:

The WBO have called for purse bids for their vacant WBO cruiserweight title between Enzo Maccarinelli and undefeated American Johnathon Banks.

The minimum bid is $300,000 and the purse bid will be held at 11am EST next Tuesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Maccarinelli, of course lost his title in March to David Haye who has since vacated the title in order to campaign at heavyweight.

Banks is unbeaten in twenty fights and holds the IBO title after beating Vincenxo Rossitto in Hamburg on the 12th July.

Banks looked **** poor in his last fight (as did Macca). Will be an interesting fight.

    Why isn't Alexeev involved?

I really like this fight. Both have not really fought enough quality top 10 contenders and Banks is an better fight for Enzo than the Alexeev fight. I am not a big Banks fan at all. This for me is a pick em fight where either man could win.

    CMON Enzo.

Taking Banks' last fight as the average to expect, Enzo should walk right through this guy.

However, I doubt that was typical Banks we seen against Rossito.

Have to admit that I haven't seen any other of Banks' fights to compare.

Looks like Macca vs Banks in Wales come September - October!

Mmmm.....I wonder. It does seem strange that 1 & 3 will be fighting when Alexeev has no fight scheduled, however, we shouldn't worry too much about what the Mickey Mouse belts do. This is a good 12 round fight that will push the winner towards a real world title soon.

WBO is a real world title. Macceranelli is better than Arslan, Kraj/Fragomeni and proably Cunningham, so if he takes the WBO belt it makes WBO the top belt at 200lbs.

Enzo would lose to Alexeev. He would struggle gainst Arslan & Cunningham.

    He will beat Banks.

No it doesn't, it might make him the best man not holding a world title but quite a lot of people rate Cunningham above him anyway.

Alexeev would've been a better opponent but...well, Banks should be willing to give it the old college try I guess.

I said (I was hardly alone of course) after the Haye loss that Enzo could be a belt-holder again by the end of the year. This is as good a chance as he's really going to get.

If he loses this one then he'll need to take a long hard look at himself.

Up until round 5 of his fight with Rossitto Banks looked ok but then for whatever reason really started to gas badly only just manageing to sneek a decision over the Italian who David Haye sparked in two a couple or three years ago. I can't imagine that Emanuel Steward will allow Banks to get through the ropes in such poor condition again.

It seems odd that the #1 and #3 are fighting for the belt but Alexeev should be mandatory for the winner soon enough .

Enzo should be too much for Banks, who's chin is a little shaky and he has been less than convincing at times . Alexeev on the other hand looks a very good fighter but who knows what his chin is like and we won't really know how good he is till he fights someone like Enzo .

That said I can see where people are coming from when they reckon Alexeev could be the future of the division, so far he has looked very good .

Anyway, Enzo tko Banks late in the fight .
