In the recent birth of the new "diamond" belt by the WBC to be contested in the 145lb "title" fight between miguel cotto and manny pacquiao. The WBO wants to encourage fighters who can't make the 130 pound limit, but are too small for the 135 lb class to contest for their new "ruby" belt. WBO president Paco valcarel told reporters that the new ruby belt was designed to create "superfights" for upandcoming superfeatherweights who were not yet ready to vie in a division 5 whole pounds past their best fighting weight. He went on to say that this would also adhere to the no sanctioning fees policy that the WBC positioned for their new "diamond" belt. When asked what was in it for the WBO if no sanctioning fees were applied. Valcarel retorted "I'm not letting that sonovthebitch mendoza outdo me, and my ruby belt will be much prettier than his penche diamond belt." More to come on this story.
its only a matter of time before the other wankers pick up on what the wbc done and do create and ruby or saphire belt
The WBC actually has been quoted saying there is no sanctioning fee attached to their diamond belt. I wonder what the catch is.
