Until recently I hadn't realised that their was a WBO European strap. So Arthur Abraham and the Ukrainian dude who's fighting Marquez both hold The wbo's version of the European title but who actually thinks that they are worth anything. or do you agree with my opinion that they are just paper titles created to seed European fighters for title shots much like the international bogus title

I actually don't see the point at all.

Noone thinks they're any good, I'm sure including the fighters. They're worthless to promoters as fans know they're bull****.

Surely they're a waste of money to manufacture then (they can't be cheap to make). It'd be so much better if the fights were marketed as what they are : 'WBO eliminator'

Actually do the WBO charge a sanctioning fee for all ranked fights, or just world title fights or ones for any type of belt? At a guess they probably charge a fee for a shitty belt albeit less than for a world belt...

We all know it's pretty much meaningless, so just ignore it, you don't need to pay attention to these belts.

  6. I actually thought that it was for the best WBO fighter in Europe. Kind of like a step up from the EBU European Champion but just behind the WBO World Champion. I thought it served as a stepping stone between being the best fighter in the continent of Europe and being the best fighter in the world. Like being slightly better than James DeGale, but not quite as good as Robert Stieglitz.

I think they should just give everyone a belt then change the name of the sport to meaningless fighting.

I think you need to realize these belts are important to the economics of the sport. TV loves them, and fighters like them because it can get them more money. The casual fan thinks they are watching in this case a European title fight, and the more 'educated' fan, can see what a farce it all is.

So do not worry, people are either blissfully ignorant or know the facts about these titles, either way, no damage is really done.
