This content is protected The final day of the WBO 25th Annual Convention concluded yesterday with the championship and rating committee meetings, one of the most exciting, and contentious events of the convention. Heavyweight: The big winner was former two-division champion David Haye, who appeared poised to score a coup over undefeated #1 contender Denis Boytsov. Haye, coming in off his big win over Derek Chisora in his last fight, received strong support to be put into the number #1 slot, while representatives from Team Boytsov pushed to hold onto their ranking, citing a possible fight with Tyson Fury at the end of the year that would make their prospect the more attractive contender if he were to win. Robert Helenius, who has been fighting injuries for much of 2012, made a push to move up the rankings while Tony Grano, Mark De Mori, Joe Hanks, David Price, Jonathan Banks, and Frenchman Johann Duhaupas all received support to enter the top 15. Sauerland also pushed for undefeated German Edmund Gerber. The King Returns! Hayemaker a G.
I don't think I understand. The eliminators don't involve fighting anymore? It would be bat**** crazy if Boytsov and Haye had to fight each other and the winner could...ach, never mind. Too crazy to even mention.
Dear lord, please no. Just no. Fight won't happen though if Haye has to take the challengers pre mandated cut. He has no promoter to bid the purse up so K2 could probably win the purse bid for pretty little.
The WBO must be having financial problems. This and the blatantly fabricated Pacquiao-Marquez "belt" are some sub-WBC level bull****.
This. WTF has Gaye done to earn himself another shot against Wlad? 1 fight and he's the mandatory again? He was completely outclassed in the first fight, Haye should have to win at least 2 for fights before he gets a crack at Wlad. guys like Pulev deserve their shot.
I still think Haye is the best heavyweight outside of Wlad, even though a case could be made for Vitali. I would also like to see a rematch but only if Haye puts a few good wins together first. Chisora was a nice win but that his only win in 2 years and nothing lined up as of now, he needs to fight one of the other rated WBO fighters before he gets another shot. Why not just have Haye vs Boystov, Helenius, Fury, Mitchell, etc. I still think a Vitali-Haye fight happens instead and someone else gets the top rated WBO slot. I'd still like to see some sort of box off for the top spot instead of just handing it out. I'd be ok with the winner of Boystov-Fury getting the spot if that fight really does happen, which I'm pretty sure doesn't.
Meh. If Wlad takes the fight, Meh. If he drops the WBO, fine, who cares, the WBO is garbage anyway and has no history. WBA, WBC, IBF is where its at. ****, Drop the IBO too.
i would actually be happy to see this fight and here's why. 1) Their is nobody out there for him to fight...Fury will probably beat Boytsov and we all know Fury wont beat Wlad, it will be a beatdown from start to finish. 2) Haye had his chance....failed badly....took one hell of a slagging from the fans, I think he would have something to prove, and lets be honest..the toe was huge, it probably did cause problems. He couldnt fight the same fight as last time as he knows he would be beaten, he would have to go for the kill, it would be his only option. I would like Haye to go back to his cruiserweight style where he went out to KO his opponent rather than this 'protect your chin at all costs' style hes had since moving up. 3) Helenius can **** off, he lost to Chisora, he knows it, we know it, a re-match should be happening before he even gets a look in.
