WBO HW TITLE: Parker v Ruiz, Dec 27th, New Zealand

I'm sure if Fury was still champ and his only shot at a title was Joshua he would have fought him.
But the opportunity door opened for WBO and he took it.

 

The plan was always an interim first, then AJ v Parker in March. Don't know what the fuss is about, the most likely barrier will be if Aj or Parker lose their next fights.

 

Parker and Joshua have been moved along fine, funny the people who always complain about them are usually Wilder fangirls.

explains why ruiz jnr pulled out of the hughie fury fight / a fight i thought was the wrong style for ruiz jnr as fury would be tolong and have to good of foot movement for ruiz to do anything with.

as it is he gets parker in a world title fight.
a fight style in parker that suits ruiz jnr more.

saying this with a 29-0 record ruiz resume is **** poor he has faced a few way past prime trial horses.

also as a proffesional boxer /athlete he is obese.

cardiac wise from what i havce seen though he can stick at a steady tempo without being fatiged albeit v parker the heavy parker shots will take it out of him.

asset wise
parker 6.4 to 6.2 ruiz looks shorter than his stated height.

parker has quicker hands and feet
arum must be smoking something as ruiz from range has average handspeed and needs to be in the pocket letting his hands go for him to speed up as he throws relaxed and fluid and this is where he needs to keep the fight.

parker although he likes to fight in the pocket should keep it long / jab right cross /step out and lateral and the fight will be easy with traditional boxing wearing ruiz down.

ruiz looks like he takes a shot/ he will need it/ watched the tor hamer fight and he has no defense or head movement to a straight right/ it landed at will and ruiz never moved his neck to ride the blows / to be fair he took them well with no effect.

but parker hits a lot harder albeit it is his very fast combos that impress me most/ especially for a man of 6.4 / best i have seen in a long time.

lands the 8th round 10 punch barrage he did on takam on ruiz and ruiz will go down.

i see ruiz more like a very good toughman comp fighter than a top 10 heavy .

biggest and only danger to parker in this fight IMO is that he finds ruiz to easy to hit and goes for a ko throwing to many shots in the first 5 rounds / finds ruiz able to take his power and gasses in the second half of the fight

ruiz is not a banger / but he does have a fighters mentality and i beleive will give it his all and go out on his shield with parker wearing him down to a stoppage around 7 rounds / sort of like an AJ v brezeale fight / ruiz jnr showing toughness but not enough abilty at the top level.

No way Parker gets 50% or close to it, Joshua is by far the bigger draw. But winning the WBO title would give him some leverage in negotiations and it being a unification fight would make it even more marketable which of course means more money.

I have no issue with Parker going for the WBO title, it makes business sense. Parker is Joshua's mandatory but who knows when that will happen. Joshua has the Wlad fight and what if Joshua tries to unify with Wilder which was the direction Hearn seemed to be taking Joshua prior to Fury's troubles. It would possibly mean Parker side lined until next summer for a Joshua fight. Should Parker just sit on the side lines waiting for a shot, I don't think so, this is a good opportunity and a decent fight.

 

Good post. Parker would get 25% as a mandatory, in a unification he'd get a bit more, so maybe 30 - 35%, max 40%. Joshua is still the big draw in the UK obviously.

 

I think if Abel can get him down to a good weight, I think he stands a chance, especially early. He's got good speed for a heavy guy and pretty good power as well. If anyone can test his chin right now besides the other champs in the division it's Ruiz. GOOD FIGHT, I AGREE!

 

Apparently these two sparred before and Parker got rocked pretty good. I still pick him in this fight. Sparring is sparring.

Yes, Team Parker have mentioned the first time they sparred that Ruiz rocked him - way back when Parker first joined with Kevin Barry. The second time they sparred they were apparently toe to toe and the last time they did Parker hammered him and was never called for sparring again after.

Parker is taking the currently available route, they were all keen to go then when Fury dropped the belts AJ/Hearn went straight for Klitschko so Team Parker hunted an alternative route... that is certainly not an easier route as the IBF belt will remain a target so long as Parker is mandatory. He has not put all his eggs in one basket.

If Team AJ decide to come back to Team Parker ifthe Klitchko thing falls through then I don't blame Team Parker if they don't go for AJ *right now* as tbh if you look at it objectively it makes a lot more sense to pursue this. Yes, Ruiz IS an easier beat than Joshua however it also raises the profile for Parker and as previously stated, gives him better leverage for future negotations.

I'm sure Joshua's team would be keen on that as it gives them a possible unification bonus for the mandatory defense.
