Josh Taylor has been ordered to defend his WBO light-welterweight title against Teofimo Lopez next after a foot injury scuppered the Scot's proposed rematch with Jack Catterall. A voluntary defence against Catterall on March 4 in Glasgow was postponed after Taylor tore the plantar fascia tendon in his heel in sparring and the much-anticipated return bout may now be put on the backburner" So, Lopez Vs Taylor. Who takes it ?
Teo has already hit his ceiling. His size/speed advantages are diminished at this weight and he never really had a "skill" advantage to fall back on. I think Josh can stop him if they fight, which I don't even see how Lopez qualifies for this shot.
A few things to keep in mind. 1). How bad is this foot injury of Taylors because it does not sound clever at all + the whole reason he was so flat in the lead up to Catterall was because of Covid & Injuries which resulted in a very poor camp. 2). Following on from the above point... injuries prevented him from getting the road work in and in turn he had a **** weight cut. How's the foot injury going to heal up and react to the road work to cut weight......
And Taylor isn't a POS? What has Teo done in the real world that is scummy? Taylor is known for being a class A scumbag.
I think this is all going to come down to how Taylor responds to the injury - it would be a disaster for Taylor if he is as flat and off as he was against Catterall and loses or worse gets stopped. Whilst enormous credit goes to Catterall for fighting a great fight, Taylor was obviously out of sorts in that fight and the injury and subsequent struggles to cut weight are well documented My worry is this is a cash out fight for Taylor with Top Rank, and if he is overlooking Lopez he could end up with egg on his face. A fully 100% Taylor has too much for Lopez and wouldn't be surprised to see a stoppage.
Wtf did Taylor do besides act like a dive after the controversial W over Catterall? Taylor never ducked or dodged anyone. He took big step ups in competition early in his career. Unified the division. And he signed the rematch with Catterall. If he does not face Catterall after the Lopez match(should he win), I will agree that he ducked him. But does that make him a POS?
I’m talking about in real life. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-50839281.amp
Taylor is going to hurt him badly with his world class right hook.... Snatch his body.. Don't rule out him to stop Teo late
