Yes !!! A fight against parker would be highest level , the fight everyone wants - and i,m the first one to buy the ppv and cheer usyk ! Of course yes , so obviously we only rarely see it at boxing . So i,m still sceptical if he really intends to damage his credibility in such an obvious way .
I mean, for a guy who reps a small island nation in the Pacific with little pedigree in the realm of combat sports historically, will never be a box office draw and whose career entwined an era dominated by British fighters and x2 huge cash cows and still became a former world champ, perennial Top 10 contender for 10 years and has some big money fights under his belt (and set for life) - big Joe has done very, very well. His skills can't be brought into question but he was never going to have an easy run in the sport of boxing.
But he was never a heavy under dog in any of those fights what's so ever He was the overwhelming favourite on the Bakole farce That's not over achieving
I understand that career perspective but I mean more so on how people ie knowledgeable fans view him People have always known he is decent From that pov he hasn't over achieved
When he was stopped by Joyce he was completely written off. Everything since then is over achieving. The longevity hes maintained is unreal.
To be fair, it´s rare to see someone pull off back to back upsets, as Parker did against Wilder and Zhang. I personally don't think he has overachieved, but I do find his longevity remarkable. I thought he was done after the Joyce fight, to be honest. He was a former title holder who won his belt at a very young age, and now after 4 years of crawling back to contention he gets brutalized by another rising contender. Parker is likely to be crowned as the WBO champ again, 9 years after winning it the first time, unless Usyk fights him next that is. While it would make him a paper titlist, it would still be something he earned the hard way. Heavyweights rarely win a title for a second time.
What do you mean? He was a heavy underdog against Wilder, 4 to 1 under dog, and a 2 to 1 underdog against Zhang. For reference he is only a 4.5 to 1 underdog for Usyk atm and it seems like 90% of people are giving him zero chance to win that fight.
With bookies Not people that actually know boxing Whilst he was never the favourite, he was also never an underdog He was always a live player in the fight It's Wilder for gods sake With Uysk of course he is the genuine underdog That's a win if he pulled it off as an over achievement
Rumors are that Usyk will vacate, and he should if he does not face Parker next, unless Parker agrees to step aside. The WBO mandatory was actually set back in 2022 when Joyce beat Parker for the interim belt. It´s been nearly 3 years since, and 4 fights with said belt on the line. So there is a fairly good chance that Parker will soon be the recognized WBO champ again.
Idk who these people "who actually know boxing" are but all the videos from boxers, trainers, pundits are still online, you can search them and see people picking Wilder. You can even search this forum and see Wilder being the obvious favourite from the get go. Its revisionist history that Parker was clearly going to win and is the better fighter, same with the Zhang fight. And it would have been the same with the Dubois fight as well. Are people's memories really this short?
