It's better than 168 was. Kinda hard to trump the first Cruiser. So all in all it's good and the fights seem action packed.
I like tournaments, I really do. But I prefer them to actually straighten a division out, any division. This won't do that. I'm sure I'll end up watching a few of the bouts simply because I'm a boxing fan. But this doesn't intrigue me like the last WBSS or the Super Six did.
I fully agree. But i think Cruiserweight II does more for the division than the current SMW has done. It really all depends on Gassiev and Usyk. If Usyk moves up and Gassiev joins the tournament, we will have a new true king at Cruiser. After Groves-Smith we wont have a true king.(i think it is for the Ring Mag belt but i disagree with the decision)
By the time the semis start Usyk will be at heavyweight and probably Gassiev with him, and Bellew will be retired so cruiserweight needs a new top dog. This is the best way to find that person, though a couple of names do leave me scratching my head like Masternak and Fayfer. Glad a U.S. fighter is in it this time (not that I think he has a chance but might slightly help the tournaments US viewing numbers)
What has Bellew got to do with finding out who top dog is? He was relevant for about five minutes when he won a vacant belt getting on for two and a half years ago. then decided he wanted no part of Bredi s and vacated.
He's relevant because he's in the next fight against the undisputed champion of the division, unless you're one of these haters who doesn't give Usyk their due. Let me guess, you rate Steve Cunningham a better CW right and you'd pick Ward to beat Usyk. Heard it all now.
I'm surprised Usyk hasn't already been stripped by all 4 orgs for not fighting some BS mandatory. Then again, probably lots of $ to be made by not stripping him.
Good points. As an American based fan, and fan of the lower weights, I was hoping they'd look at maybe 130 or 122 next. Get those divisions straightened out and some more notice. Lots of quality fighters and plenty of good matches in each. A second round at cruiser isn't bad. It just isn't what I was hoping would happen.
Someone actually made a great point which was that the Cruiser II is like a bonus tournament. The 118 and 140 tournaments are packed, no complaints there. Can't really complain about Cruiser being weak.
Bellew is fighting Usyk at cruiser (I believe) for ALL of the belts. Should he win, which he probably won't, he is certainly the top dog. So for the time being he is obviously relevant.
It makes sense to have another weight division as the other two tournaments are working as a co promotion. If Lebedev, Gassiev, Briedis and Dorticos are all involved it will be a cracking tournament. Not sure that is going to be the case though.
