That’s what he wants to happen so he can blame Haymon. Schaefer is Haymon’s guy and he’s the one who put these things together.

Let's be real. Doing a bantamweight one would be suicidal in terms of profile for the tournament. It would do very small ratings. Most Boxing fans don't give a **** about the midget weights.

Agreed. He was decent fighter in his day but he hasn't fought for two years.

Those guys are used to fighting for much smaller purses, though. You'd get a lot of bang for the buck since it'd cost less to land the top guys.

Besides, they don't need US support for the tournament to succeed. Stage the bantam fights in Japan and the ratings would be huge.

Those midgets draw massive ratings in Asia and South America.
It really depends on the location.
Yes, in the U.S. they would see little results but that's just one market.

I like the idea of it being in a division that doesn't get much attention. I didn't know loads about the cruisers before the tournament, now everyones talking them. If its at bantamweight for example, it will only help me get more interested in the division

That fight was 6 years ago lol he has beaten anyone of note in years now.

Even if he doesn't he will lose to any good contender anyway.

Exactly. Really only the US and mainland Europe have the obsessive HW fetish. Anywhere else you get appreciation (in the rare instance you can dredge up some boxing fans, period) up and down the scale.

If this is the future of boxing I'll be very happy.

SMW hasn't been as good as CW but it's still be pretty damn good and it's made Groves a superstar and probably the number 1 in the division.

Superstar or flavor of the week? I feel like people are way more optimistic about the futures of Gassiev & Usyk than Groves'. A tourney crown would be nice but is just kind of him icing the cake; I don't think anybody is expecting it to be a real beginning of another chapter in his career.

Either way it's got him headlining a huge event and that's something I can see him continuing with. It's been between him and Ramirez for who's number 1 and I think Groves is clear now.

It's isn't a patch on the CW format, that's without doubt, but it has still been a success thus far imo.
