Other fighters (like Brook) were given changing dates and venues. If Dirrell didn't fight Smith he would get stripped.
Who knows whether Smith, Eubank and others will postpone their fights?

How much longer of his career is he supposed to waste waiting for fighters to stick to their contracts and fight him?

You're missing the point. He has been inactive for so long waiting for the WBC shot. Remember he was mando to Badou Jack but had to step aside for the Degale unification. Then that ended in a draw and he was left in limbo when Jack vacated to move up.

Dirrell the prize ***** has been ****ing around with the date and enough is enough. Matchroom suggested to Dirrell's team that they both enter the WBSS and then they could have the fight as part of the tournament but again Dirrell's team shat it.

How can anyone defend Anthony Dirrell here? Just get the fight on FFS. You can't keep ****ing around with the date just to get a better home advantage. From May to October is a hell of a long delay. Smith just wants to fight and fair play to him for waiving his title shot in order to fight for WBSS glory.

Smith couldn't wait until October for a title shot. Now he has to wait until next year barring injuries and pull-outs (and not just his).

Dirrell like his brother has no heart, and no interest in facing the best. That's why he ducked out of this tournament even though he would earn career-high paydays.

Benavidez is going to savagely KO him and it's going to be amazing.

The top super-middles are Degale and Ramirez. They are not in this tournament.

Hard to say who the top SMW's are with any real certainty.

DeGale is injured and Ramirez isn't in the tournament because Arum.

In the ESPN rankings only one of the top 7 is in this tournament and that's Groves(#5).

You can make a reasonable argument for Groves being the best SMW around right now.

Competition wise the WBSS for the SMWs isn't the best it could be but it's still entertaining as hell and in my book coming out on top would be far more prestigious and impressive than just winning a world title (in Callum Smith's case sparking pu$syole Dirrell.)

I think the argument is more than reasonable to have Groves at #1. DeGale got the crap beaten out of him by Jack and has already lost to Groves so I can't fathom how ESPN have DeGale at #1 and Groves at #5. They also have Jack at #2 which is ridiculous A. because he's not in the SMW division anymore and B. because he beat the crap out of DeGale.

Zurdo has done nothing since his win over AA and Arum wouldn't let him take part in this tournament so you can't have him ranked #1 either. Anthony Dirrell at #4....see my point @BigDoofus ?

Does anyone here actually rate Jamie Cox or give him any chance vs Groves? I've never been impressed with him in all honesty.

Listened to the Bunce/Costello podcast today and I have to say that I agree with Bunce that the schedule for this tournament, whilst admirable, is too ambitious. There's no way these guys are having 3 top tier fights in what amounts to a little over 7 months. I'd be amazed if the schedule doesn't slip at some point.

As long as it is a level playing field for all fighters I like it as I think it is part of the challenge.
