Anybody else agree? A WBSS style tournament for all major divisions once per year for all top 10 ranked guy's, It would be beyond epic!

Yes. You shouldn't be able to avoid the top fighters in your division for years. If the alphabet groups were serious about cleaning up the sport they'd have tournaments. It would also be nice if they followed an annual schedule: Quarter-finals in March, semi-finals in June, and finals in September. If you aren't willing to fight three times a year, you don't get ranked in the top 10.

There's one major flaw in this.....

Why would the number 1,2 and 3 guys in a division want to take pay cuts just so that 8, 9 and 10 would get an even share?

All valid points, especially OpinionOfACasual's point.
If one guy has a much bigger fan base and is the guy they want to see but number 9 gets the same money, it's not fair. That's socialism at it's finest.
I want to see all these guys fight it out and all are equal, but some people are just more equal than others.

This current tourney worked well because all of the fighters are virtually unknown, just like the Super 6 back in the day.
Once someone with a fan base comes along, in comes the politics.

Politics will always be a problem and that sucks, I guess this is part dream part "could" work somehow, The further you progress in the tournament the more money you stand to earn, If the main prize money is a large enough sum it could be enough to sway people to put politics to the side in a lot of cases, I am not sure what a tournament would be worth financially but if they could offer a huge amount it could get interesting.

also going by the wbss thus far, i am getting the impression the winning the tournament and the ali trophy is actually more prestigious than winning a belt. WBSS have done a good job on the promotion and production, i think its possible to make such a tournament very prestigious to the point where fighters could even be looked down upon for not taking part. Yeah you was a world champion but you never won an annual tournament.

Its a nice idea with obvious flaws as mentioned but i honestly think of the back of this WBSS this could possibly although not likely somehow be a viable thing in the near future.

Forcing fighters to face each other would not only make the sport far more exciting but it would make people step their game up and take their skills to a new level.

    Indeed, good points.

However, if the WBSS comes up with a fair way (formula?) of splitting the prize money relative to a fighter's fan base perhaps it could still be fair.

I wonder if they could add an option to the PPV that when you buy you select who you are paying to watch, the fighter that gets selected the most on the PPV gets a bigger % of the PPV sales, I actually think that would be a good idea for all fights actually.

I like the idea but some of these guys are flat out fighting twice a year, maybe having it every 2 years which allows each tournament to run 18 months-2 years. The success of the cruiserweight tournament especially just highlights how good boxing is when the best fight the best.

Boxing needs complete overhaul to get rid of the corrupt organisations and people ruining the sport and we need 1 ruling body which will also stop the confusion with to many stupid belts and so called champions. The threat of boxing being removed from the Olympics should be a wake up call also with amateur boxing riddled with similar problems with multiple organisations and corruption at the highest level from people who have been in power to long

    In a dream world, absolutely.

In reality, just look at the 168 tourney despite mad prize money.

It's a miracle the big boys at Cruiserweight were down and willing.

    There's also a problem here...

You think all the organizations ruining the sport are corrupt? Now imagine if it were just one.

:risas3:Not sure if your being serious but theres no way that getting rid of the multiple corrupt organisations via some kind of independent commision to create 1 governing body can be seen as anything but the best thing for the sport. Maybe all orgs aren't corrupt but having so many of them is obviously 1 of the biggest issues plaguing the sport.

If with the 1 governing body there ends up being any kind of corruption which unfortunately happens where money is involved it can be policed easier. The positives easily out weigh the negatives such as ending the confusion of to many belts and allowing more fights with the best against the best

I dunno if it's cause I was raised on fighting games and movies, but Van Damme do I love me a tournament. Would definitely love to see more going forward.
