Ok i was looking at another thread about audrey and someone saying he will be a title holder in 12 months. So i mad a joke about being wbu champ as thats all i think he would achieve now unfortunately. Well to cut a long story short i went to see who in fact was the proud owner of the (frank warren) i mean WBU heavyweight championship of the world and what i found is not what i expected atsch This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl What a prestigous honour it must be wbu champ

it's a minor title man. it's not the greatest it's just an award for fightign in your career. there have been some good wbu scraps and wbu fighters. some guys will never win a title so why not give them somthign to proove for when they retired.
I think its more to do with sanctioning fee's and also a fight in some lesiure centre for the wbu world title sounds better and puts more casual bums on seats. it is a B/C class title ok there has been one very good champ i.e ricky hatton, but not many wbu champs go on to fight for a real title. One that comes off the top of my head is takaloo :hey its seems to me that the wbu is usualy a sports network title more then anything else :bbb
The best WBU fight I can recall is Colin Dunne vs Billy Schwer Both guys were top 10 at the time, and would be top 10 all time in the British 135lb rankings IMO. A real quality affair, which would have made a good world title fight, ended with a split decision in Dunne's favour (Schwer was slightly past his peak). Other notables include Ricky Hatton vs Eamon Magee, Ben Tackie and Vince Phillips. I think each of the current holders are Sports Network fighters, with the exception of Tsveenpurev, who hammered Derry Matthews (a Sports Network fighter).
Bang on the money and im expecting amir khan to challenge for the 135 wbu title before the year is out :-(
I have mixed opionions about the non major titles part of me says let the fighters with less abilty earn a bit more money by duping the public into thinking that these fights are generally world class contests. But the future of the sport looks bleak when you have guys who havent even one a national title being presented as world champs to the public. There have been guys who have held lesser titles and proved to be superb fighters ricky hatton for one. But then again didnt audley harrison win his first world title against that black man from holland. The trouble is the average sports fan only realy is intrested in the big fights if there is a fight for the world title and its the only one that excists the title means alot but if there is 5 world champs in one division then the title of worlds best is devauled that is one of the reasons that the cage fighting is the fastest growing sport in the western world because if youre a ufc world champ it means that you are the genuine best in the your catergroy untill someone beats you.
There was a great article involving Lee McAllistar stating how he wanted to be a three weight world champion :rofl :rofl atsch WBU
