To be fair, the trend at the moment tends to be for the elite to fight the elite regardless of titles. This in turn seems to be filtering down a little. The problem arises when there are well managed boxers who can earn a quick buck by fighting for a 'title'. All in all, it doesnt pull the wool over the avid fan's eyes, but its the casual fan who suffers when almost every week there is a 'world title fight'. As the man says though, they make money! And it wont stop. As long as the elite keep fighting each other though I dont mind as much.
I think 50p from every ESB member should be enough. We will have to invest in new belts though, with real nine carat gold and leather rather than fool's gold and vinyl :deal
That high?i wonder what that actuall y gets you though...does anyone have picture of a wbu belt close up ...
It was the whole organisation that was for sale, you'd get back the sanctioning fee's... oh and the power to mandate whoever you want to fight khan when he gets his mitts on the WBU belt.
i wonder what they get ?i heard that for the recent maliniaggi/hatton fight the ibf were wanting £150,000 to sanctioning that fight.i wonder what the wbu would get for sanctioning a fight.
there's no way it cost that much, it's run out of an old shed in Norwich for christs sake. Getting rid of the WBU will reduce Britain's world champions by about 85%. Hatton will be gutted.
While you are right that Vilches and Pederson were big steps down, Pederson only came in on short notice(4 days ?) as a replacement for Kelson Pinto in a fight that was meant to be for the WBO title. Vilches was a step down but he did have a high ranking with the IBF and had fought an eliminator against Sharmba Mitchell just the year before(and if you remember it seemed for a long time as if Hatton-Mitchell that was the fight that would eventually happen not Tszyu). Vilches infact fought in another IBF eliminator just 4 months ago but was easily stopped by Urango. For me the problem was the Smith and Hutchinson fights between Magee and Phillips.
