    We four great fighters started our careers in the United States Navy,
    where we won laurels as top boxing sailors..We then turned pro's and
    became geat fighters...Who were we four.?

    Gunboat Smith and Jack Sharkey are on my list...The other two is a great
    tough fighter, never a champ, and the other guy is a former champion,
    who is sadly forgotten today, but is an all time great fighter..Both from the USNavy...

    Burt, I think you mentioned Lee Sala on another thread. I'm pretty sure he was in the Navy, and was a helluva fighter.

    While in the Navy, Vinny Cidone joined the boxing team, and for the first time he fought in a ring with boxing gloves.
