Who wasn't asking for a Ray Leonard bout when Ray was the champ? Sorry but Duran moved up and actually forced the shot. Ray had Hearns to deal with as well Funnily enough, Pryor never fought any of those guys..nor moved up to even try. No one to blame but himself, at least Floyd moved up and tried.
Mayweather is not worried about legacy because his is already cemented. Plus the "haters" generally talk about fights that would no impact on his legacy. The only fight that would have impacted Mayweathers legacy was the Manny fight period. And Manny didnt want the fight.
Says it himself: http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...5VTAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LYcDAAAAIBAJ&pg=5848,4131235 Here earlier he says he turned down the first offer to fight Leonard: [yt]ME4zwWwNhls[/yt] Thread Stealer uploaded this video for the sole purpose of this issue.
So sad and pathetic when you had guys like Leonard ,Duran ,Hearns even Oscar who set the the standards of fighting the best how can any self respecting boxing defend such actions ? Boxing will be a much better place once this guy retires !
I know who Leonard fought but it wasn't about who these fighters fought but rather who they didn't fight which I think is nit picking but a debatable topic. Leonard started at welter weight and his whole productive career (with the exception of Hagler ) was fought at that weight. Moving up to 160 wasn't a hard thing for him to do. He was walking around at 160 or better. I don't remember a 154 lb division back then. Mayweather came up three divisions to welter and dabbled in a fifth. He cleared out all of those divisions with the exception of 154 which he don't really fight at. He doesn't even keep those belts. Name me four fighters of the caliber you listed that Floyd should've fought on his way up and at welter. Then we can get back to choices or ducks or whatever.:bbb
Whitiker ? I never mentioned Whitaker ,plus he is one of my all time favorites .. Seems someone is having fun with my posts ..
After the Mayweather fight, Marquez fought Diaz and Katsidis. Why it did not sell over 300 thousand ppvs ?
Yeah, just like who's not asking for Mayweather, I'm not hatin on Leonard. All I'm saying is that him and Mayweather had choices and a right to choose. Duran had a bigger base behind him and he was able to influence the choice but not the case for Pryor. I refuse to blame Pryor for that **** because he was willing and ready to fight Leonard or Duran.:bbb
