It is recognized that during this time (2004-2008 ) the Klitschkos have been clearly on top (Vitali in 2004-2005 and Wlad since 2006) but there has been no fighter officially declared "Champion". 4 years. This had never happened before. When Jeffries retired, there was a fight for the vacant title that same year. When Tunney retired, there was a parenthesis of only two years. When Louis and Marciano retired the fans didn't have to wait so long. Etcetera. What fight do you think would decide who is the new Champ? In my opinion: a) Wlad-Chagaev b) Wlad-Ibragimov c) Wlad-Peter (or Peter/Maskaev winner)
I believe that "main stream" media what consider a true champion until one has unified. In the past that only included the IBF, WBA, and WBC titles, but now since fairly high profiled fighters have fought for the WBO title, that will be throws in there as well. There are just so many things that have to happen for us to have a truly unified champion.
I agree. Second would be Wlad versus the Peter/Oleg winner, especially if it's an impressive win for Peter.
yeah the hw division has been pretty pathetic since lennox retired.. there needs to be a unified title eliminator IBF WBC WBA WBO and whatever the **** else is out there to bring life back to the heavyweights.. imo wlad wins
I don't think it matters too much that the ring hasn't declared a champ. We all know who the best in the division is. What DOES matter is that the top guns are not fighting each other.
Wlad/ the winner of Peter/Maskaev, if Maskaev does win I would say rather see Chagaev fight Wlad though.
Chagaev and Wlad, no question. Those are easliy the two best heavyweights out there, right now. Chagaev is undefeated, is a titleholder and is a very skill, and impressive fighter. HE is Wlad's only true test. And while the winner of Wlad and Chagaev would have the best claim to being called THE man, I think we all know that to have a true THE MAN, he'll have to collect all four titles. Whoever unifies, simple. Fighters need to want it to happen too you know. Tyson did it. Holy did it. Lewis did it. They all dealt with dodgy promoters, bull**** rankings etc. It's not like that is anything new. I don't buy the **** coming out of fighters mouths today. If they wanted it, it would happen. Try fighting more often than every 9 months. That would be a good start.
