Joe Calzaghe would of sparked out, Felix Trinidad.

He would of beat down and TKO Oscar De La Hoya.

He would of beat down and TKO Kelly Pavlik.

He would of beat down the Antonio Tarver Hopkins faced.

He would of won by UD against Jermaine Taylor.

He would of ended Jean Pascal's career.

And at Light Heavyweight, i think he would win a UD against Winky Wright. Only because Winky Wright was abit fat and out of condition at the weight.

You have to remember that Hop had the same kind of dominance at 160 (a far stronger division historically) that Joe had at 168, only he actually cleared the division out at one point. He then jumped two weight classes and beat The Ring champ, who was having weight struggles but barely dropped a round.

People also forget that Trinidad was a heavy favourite going into the Hop fight. Joppy wasn't great by any means, but he was a titlist and Trinidad decimated him. Hardly a blown-up Welter, he was favoured to smash Hopkins. Unlike Jeff Lacy, we actually know Tito was a top-notch fighter. This win trumps the Lacy win by quite a lot.

Saying what Calzaghe would do and comparing it to what Hopkins actually did do is irrelevant. Hopkins is the greater fighter by some margin, it's impossible to argue unless you've got a hard-on for Joe/swayed by bias due to him coming from our shores.

 

Bernard Hopkins is greater on paper.

But technically, Joe Calzaghe was the better fighter in my opinion. There is no easy way out in boxing, and Bernard Hopkins had his chance to prove that he was better than Joe Calzaghe. Bernard Hopkins employed the so called dream team, and in my opinion Joe Calzaghe was'nt really motivated against Bernard Hopkins. Apart from Hopkins knocking Joe Calzaghe down, Bernard Hopkins was on the back foot. And was hit more times EVER, by one of his oponents. Joe Calzaghe even put Hopkins on the back foot...in round 1....even after he had been knocked down.

Joe Calzaghe won his fight against Bernard Hopkins hands down.

I think Bernard Hopkins would be put through hell, by the Chris Eubank that Joe Calzaghe faced.

The only thing that bothered Chris Eubank in that fight, was Joe Calzaghe's unreal workrate....UNREAL..!!

 

Again, this has no relevance when judging who is the greater fighter? I myself think that was a severely weight-drained Eubank. The Hop that faced Pavlik for instance, would have a great 12 round staring contest with the always-cagey Eubank; his proficiency for combinations and superior ring intelligence would see him spoil his way to a poitns win in a dull, uneventful fight.

 

Hopkins middleweight reign wasn't that much better than JC's super mw reign IMO, beat Tito, Dela Hoya(both come up in weight), and lets not forget, rightly or wrongly he was beaten twice by Taylor.

For me Hopkins IS the better fighter with the better resume but had JC manned up and finished off his career with an unbeaten Pavlik/Dawson, they'd be harder to seperate. But he didn't and Hopkins continues to defy age and produce the goods, the man is an absolute legend.

 

It'd be some stretch to argue that Joe's a 'greater' fighter than Hopkins. While much of Hopkins MW reign was over opponents similar to Calzaghe's in quality, the guys he made his name against (say his last 10-15 fights) were significantly better than Joe's.

And as Flea says, he cleared out the division, unified all of the belts and then recovered from two close losses by beating Tarver around the ring for 12 rounds.

 

Fleas comment was that Hopkins was the far superior fighter.

He did not say (though I'm sure he would) that Hopkins has by far the better record.

All this talk about resume has nothing to do with Fleas original point!!!

 

If you've beaten better fighters, and proven yourself greater, it proves you are superior, despite one matchup against a very awkward and formidable opponent.

So yes, B-Hop is far superior.

Agree to disagree, he is better but to say far superior is way off the mark considering JC holds a win over a possibly a 'peak' Hopkins.

You say he beat better fighters, is anyone on Bernards resume anywhere near as good as Bernard is on Joes?
Who's BHops best win in your opinion Flea? I'd personally say Tito

Uzi, my man, I have been through this above! Calzaghe also fought a lot of cans, Hops average wins supercede Joes IMO.

It's a case of one guy being able to do something but not doing much, and the other guy actually doing it, you also have to give Hop extra points for remaining awesome at his age. You also have to give him points for having a debatable points loss to Calzaghe on his ledger :yep :good
